Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL 9m
Texans are releasing Ed Reed today.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL 8m
After 27-24 loss to Arizona, Ed Reed said the Texans were "outplayed" and "outcoached." On Monday, he said, "I spoke the truth."

On Tuesday he is released. OUCH.

C'mon back to Nola Ed.

We asked him to come here, he declined

Just like Nnamdi, both of them have been released now

Reed is done.

Happy retirement.

The Dude 11-12-2013 11:53 AM

Screw it lets get Ed Reed

Just got released. I bet he would play for almost nothing to finish out his career on a team that has a legit shot at SB. Make it happen Loomis! lol.

We couldn't afford him unless he clears waivers

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

Even if he retires. Have him come back and raise vaccaro under his wing for training

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

Reed should consider hanging them up. He is no longer the player he used to be. It appears Ozzie Newsome knew what he was doing...

HouYat 11-12-2013 12:28 PM

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

Bring him here as a coach maybe, don't need him as a player. He is not the all-pro ball hawk that he used to be.

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

We don't need some broke down safety. He should call it a day, dudes gonna be a hall of famer already.

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

I think some of these guys have possibly lost a step. Calling out coach and being "outplayed" - yeah I can see how the coach may get a little mad.... but let's be honest, most free safeties run out of gas at 33 or 34, some even before. Reed is 35 and either at the end of his tank or the Texans felt his tank already ran out.

I'll take a PASS on him and Nnamdi. Loomis probably tried to sign them for what they were actually worth after workouts. They got a sweet deal elsewhere, but look where they are - both CUT.

And he's is only owed $400k on his current contract.

He is only due 400k. The Texans pick up the rest. I think he would be a good situational player with limited snaps for the next 7 games. I wouldnt sign him as a permanent solution.

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

That 400k will be needed next year with Graham extension/tag
and all the free agents needing paid

He was released Dude, meaning this is not a trade scenario. He would be getting a new contract where ever he goes.

He would probably sign for the assumption of the current contract. Mostly because I like to make assumptions.

TheOak 11-12-2013 01:53 PM

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

There is no current contract... Released means its done. Closed. Finished.

Who are you releasing to make room?

Anyway do you want to know what is left on Reed's contract? $9M for 2014/2015

ScottF 11-12-2013 02:01 PM

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

don't we have $1.25 mill in cap space right now?
A prorated 1 year deal should be easy to swing

For yesterday's contract obviously. I can't find the smiley with the tongue sticking out but act like it's entered here.

Who's getting cut? Remember, cuts come with dead money acceleration.

Like the song sez, Time to say good bye. Ed was a great player for a long time. It sucks getting old. It really does.

Ever heard of a player named Darren Sharper?

Darren Sharper wasn't coming off major hip surgery either...

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

I'd play him over Abdul-Quiddus and Bush. Probably even over Roman Harper...

Saintaintso 11-12-2013 08:08 PM

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

Bring em in ... He would've at least prevented that Vernon Davis TD at San Fran ... Way better than Harper ... And the ensight he'll give to Vaccarro and Jenkins can't be measured in dollars ... But at less thank 500k why the blank not ? He'll have time to heal up and might even give us an edge in the postseason ... Vaccarro and Reed plus Keenan Lewis scares me as an opposing QB that has to keep up with Brees.

GeauxNOGeaux 11-12-2013 09:57 PM

Ed Reed

I know I'm a guy for giving second chances as I'd personally love to wear a Asomugha jersey, however, is Ed Reed realistic. Could be a great mentor as well as help stepping in with some starters banged up. Sure he'd love to come home to WhoDat Cajun Country

|Mitch| 11-12-2013 10:07 PM

Re: Ed Reed

There's a reason he was released... The Texans took a chance with him after his significant hip surgery, and it didn't work out...

Besides, we have 5 very capable safeties, why do we want to add another?

K Major 11-12-2013 10:29 PM

Re: Ed Reed

He is 35, battered, bruised & more importantly the ball hawking skills are GONE. Father time catches up with the great ones too.

People said that about Darren Sharper too

if the clears waivers but I don't wanna claim him off waivers I would sign him but I don't want us to pay the 400,000 + 62,000 per game he's active he's getting now

Apples to Oranges.
Sharper wasn't coming off an injury
Sharper wasn't a mid season acquisition
Sharper hadn't just run his mouth about the Packers or Vikings

Absolutely not

Re: Ed Reed

ed reed in one hand or chris carr in the other. I don't know I think id like reed as a center fielder type guy but I don't think they wil sign him we don't sign older guys that often

I do like that Ed can catch a int when having the chance. we have a bunch of non catchin DB's on our roster I've noticed that

Ed Reed, Gone.

rezburna 11-13-2013 09:54 AM

Re: Ed Reed on his way out of Houston...

I'm all for bringing Ed Reed in on a 1 year deal. Rotate him in here and there. We've got injuries at Safety right now anyway. Might sound crazy, but I could envision a 4 safety formation. Reed, Jenkins, Vacarro, and Harper. Jenkins and Vacarro could both go man to man if needed. Also gives them more freedom to blitz.
