Re: Fired

What amazes me is that Jim Swartz didn't get fired YESTERDAY up in Detroit. The Chudzinski firing was bit of a surprise for me though...

K Major, his firing day is probably coming up.

WRedskins letting go of Shanahan is no surprise, BUT the entire coaching staff , OUT!!!

Next coach on the yearly firing list?

Add Shiano to the list. He's done in Tampa. Their GM, Mark Dominik, is out too.

Better question- will we lose anyone, ie Ryan, Carmichael, Vitt?

Exile,
I see conflicting reports on this one. Has this been confirmed?

agreed- that guy got results from nothing
Was he hired by the new owner, or did the owner inherit him? The new guy might be looking at a big name- Gruden, Cowher, etc

Re: Fired

I hope the Buccs don't get Lovie Smith. He could make that defense dangerous, Lavonte David, Dashon Goldson, Darrelle Revis, Gerald Mccoy is a scary combo

Yep, Lovie is a defensive minded HC so I would expect them to become dangerous down the road.

You are right, probably more so because Revis and company will want to stay now.

Well played sir.

I'm not sure firing Jim Schwartz was the right thing. The guy took over a completely dumpster team and has made alot of improvements. Detroit is in a tough divison.

I just think he needed more time.

For me, he was long over due for a firing. It appeared that he never turned a corner, even with all of that talent on both sides of the ball & some of his players never matured under his leadership.

Now Rob Chudzinski is a guy who needed more time ... 1 year and out the door? What are they doing up there in Cleveland?

agreed. I don't know how old he is, but he coached like a young man. His teams had no discipline, and he led by example. They handed us that playoff game with dumb penalty after dumb penalty

It was the right thing. Midway through the season, at 6-3, his team realistically should of been 7-2/8-1 and they should have walked away with that Division with key injuries to Green Bay (Rodgers), Chicago (Cutler) and Minnesota's problems finding a QB. Instead, he goes 1-6 the last 7 games and finishes below .500/third in the Division in spite of the fact he STILL could have squeaked it out with just one win in WK 17. That's failure on an epic level and he had to get the boot in order for the Ford family to save any kind of face around metro Detroit.

He had his chances, had his successes and he's a nice enough guy, but the Lions were anticipating hosting a playoff game and he blew it. It was going to be one of the best weeks in Detroit sports history as we were also hosting the NHL's Winter Classic & Winter Classic Alumni games and it's also the week of the annual WinterFest that began with the hosting of the SuperBowl a few years back ... and "no", I'm not bitter about the whole thing,.

Nah, in some fishing circles, when the weather's rough and the decision to fish or not fish is being debated, the phrase, "SloMo would go" is often bandied about ... you just gotta' pick up and move now and again,.
