They Just Won't Let It Go

The NFL and ESPN are just going to keep trying to shove an average matt ryan into an elite hole.

I'm sorry. As a casual observer, having watched football since the mid/late 70s, having seen some truly great QBs in that time, Matt Ryan is not now, has never been, nor will he ever be elite. I'm so sick of this I could puke. I'd rather them get back on the Brett Favre kick. Seriously.

Re: They Just Won't Let It Go

The $100 million man’s status became a hot topic of conversation this offseason after retiring teammate Tony Gonzalez said Ryan wasn’t quite in the elite category of quarterbacks along with Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.
The difference between Ryan and the other truly "elite" quarterbacks is that Ryan relies on his supporting cast and the others make those around them better.

Just look at Drew; he gets it done no matter what... He doesn't need 1st round receivers, O-Line, or backs to be productive. Albeit it helps a lot...

That's the thing. "Elite", to me, means this is a guy who makes others better, just as you say. Ryan is not in the category, or even close. Heck, he's not even as close as Jake Delhomme.

Riddle me this. How many ELITE QB's suffer through a 4 and 12 season?

Elite is a relative term. Matt Ryan has consistently put up numbers that rank him between the 6th and 12th best QB in the league, so if your definition of elite is top third of the league then yes,

Matt Ryan is an elite noodle arm quarterback who folds in high pressure games.

I don't think he is elite, however I don't think he is horrible. I look at the coaching staff...
He could do alot better on a different team.

Your right he's a decent QB who just happens to be on a cursed team.
The Coach is a human rat and the plastic surgeon sewed a pickle on
Arthur's nose. Different team - Different Coach - Different division

Re: They Just Won't Let It Go

That 4-12 season IMO puts the argument to rest that Matt Ryan is far from elite.

Drew Brees even with bad defenses never managed less than 7 wins.

What really the difference is though? Insert Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, or Tom Brady in the place of Matt Ryan last season, that 4-12 at least becomes a 7-9 or 8-8. Maybe better, thats what Atl fans havent quite grasped yet is that very concept.

I would almost have to believe Atls WR's were better last season even with the Julio injury than the Saints WR's were, and the difference was 7 games, 7 more wins for the Saints than what Atl could get. Its not just Matt Ryan, hes not elite, we know that, but that team is a flash in the pan, think of the 1970s Oilers and that is about what the Falcons are.
