A pair of high-profile NFL rookies crossed paths Saturday night -- a meeting highlighted by Michael Sam mimicking Johnny Manziel.

Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, mocked Manziel's "money sign" after sacking the Heisman Trophy winner in the fourth quarter of the St. Louis Rams' preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Michael Sam mimicked Johnny Manziel's oft-used "money" sign after sacking the rookie quarterback Saturday night.
Sam, a seventh-round draft pick who competing for a roster spot with the Rams, recorded the first of his two sacks of Manziel with just under 11 minutes remaining, punctuating the play by celebrating with the "money" sign.

"If you're going to sack Johnny, you've got to do that once," Sam said.

Sam also sacked Manziel on the final play of the game, recording his third sack this preseason.

Just five days after struggling in Cleveland's preseason game against the Washington Redskins, Manziel fared better Saturday, completing 10-of-15 passes for 85 yards and also running for a 7-yard touchdown.

"He's a talented kid," Sam said. "He isn't called Johnny Football for nothing. It was fun getting to play against Manziel in an NFL game. I sacked him as both a junior and senior at Missouri."

I think Sam has a legitimate shot at making the Rams 53 man roster. They are stacked on the Dline however he has had a good pre season thus far.

Well good for Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history. Johnny F'ing Football comes across as a punk and I'm elated that Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, mocked him.

Of course Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, has some punk in him too, and I hope that Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, doesn't make his career in the NFL all about being gay.

It will interesting if Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, ends up getting cut. Will the media claim that Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, was cut because he's gay, or because he just wasn't good enough.

Also, anyone else getting a little sick and tired of every story that involves Michael Sam, the first openly gay active player in NFL history, always points out that he's the first openly gay active player in NFL history?
