New Rules for Extra Point

Extra points being snapped from 15 yrd. line and 2pt. conversion from the 2yrd. line.

NFL moves extra point to 15-yard line for 2015 season - NFL.com

NFL is on now with T Vincent & DBlandino talking about this and other things....breaking news.

**** the NFL, they can't go an offseason without screwing with something now. Its getting to the point where I won't know all the rules but I do know that its getting harder to watch games when the Saints aren't on

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

Good grief, I don't want to see a missed extra point decide a game.

If a team dramatically drives 90 yards for an apparent tying TD, I don't want to see a missed extra point by a stupid Kicker decide the fate of the game.

Either leave it alone, or eliminate it altogether and make an optional PAT either plus 1 point or minus 1 point, depending on the success or failure.

Rajun, I am laughing so hard and I agree with you. I did not know if I feel :D,, :twisted:about this.

We Saints' fans, of all fans, know that extra point here and there CAN MAKE a BIG difference too between a W and a L.

You'll see more and more kickers receive death threats.

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

This has a lot of implications. For one thing, older kickers will probably get cut sooner in their careers. Gee, kinda like Shayne Graham, LOL. But seriously.... Because of the increased distance and increased importance, coaches will give up on older kickers sooner, rather than later. No more perennial old-timer veteran guys like Jason Hanson or Morton....they will become a thing of the past?

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

They'll likely to get paid more, less job security, and you'll start seeing more kickers get drafted. We'll probably see more jacked up kickers as well... more emphasis in the weight room.

Why? Distance isn't the issue. Accuracy is the issue.

Youth (leg strength) doesn't have an advantage on a 32 yard kick.

Quick note ...one year rule ONLY ... next year the owners would have to vote at least 24 to re adopt it.

Let's see how this materializes in 2015 ;).

And precisely what you don't want to see is exactly what you're going to see...a lot probably.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Can someone please explain this to me. Explain the extra point as if you were talking to someone who doesn't know the game. I tried reading it in NFL.com but couldn't make sense of it.

I disagree. If anything, you'd want a more experienced guy now. Might see more hybrids like Morstead so you don't use up a roster spot.

Wrong direction. Getting more of the most boring part of the game by creating odd circumstances not based off of contact. Rather just call a fan out during the kick and let them roll dice.

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

best idea would of been to just leave it alone

It'll create more concussions going for two or faking a FG from the 15. More lawsuits to follow.

I'm obviously in a minority here but I actually like the change. The XP has been a time to get more snacks up until now. This might make it a little mor interesting.

Personally, I'll take 'more snacks' over 'more interesting' most days, ;).

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

So not one missed extra point has ever decided the outcome of a game? (I can think of one played in Jacksonville.) If it's never missed why have it?

There will be fewer tie games going into "Hartley Time" Ironic isn't it? Inspired by a kicker!

Why all the tears for the "grizzled vet". Morton? Is that you?

The game evolves. We come to forums and *****, and yet, still watch. We can complain about this all day, but, in the end, we will accept it.

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

The game does evolve but that was due to coaches figuring out new ways to win NOT by some goofballs in suits changing the rules every freakin offseason

The game is evolving........heck, even rugby still has numerous law(rule) changes every year.

Does the ideal gas law change every year too?

Re: New Rules for Extra Point

all it is is manufacturing points to increase profits.

so much for a missed extra point looming large. those days are done and thus that suspense is all but done.

so adding excitement means loss of drama.

this is just the first step. what next?
40 yd TD = 7
60 yd TD = 8

the integrity of the game is going down the toilet.

still they have the idea of a moveable field goal post.

Remember when the PAT's were in the pre-season from the 20-Yard Line back in 2014? Or something like that as that flopped big time. Let's see if the 15-yard line will be that way.
