Geno Smith.

this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; I think he can be a decent starter. He didn't have much talent around him in NY those first two years....

I'll agree with that, Smith had to have something going for him to make it that far and I think anyone that's played a sport can agree that you do eventually reach a level where the game is just too fast for ya', on your way to the top.

I'm lukewarm on the "surrounding talent" debate. You can take that into account, his O/L was suspect, but other QB's have managed with lesser talent around them, #shrug. One thing I did see was that the "experts" felt Smith did not run enough or use his abilities to get himself out of tight spots. IDK, I didn't get to see that much of him, and going by the TD/INT ratio, which to me is the gold standard of QB evaluation, he kinda' came up short.

If he can play, he can play. Hopefully he can get outta' NY and maybe on a team where he can back-up a veteran QB and develop some. I've never been a big fan of drafting a QB and throwing them in the fire right off the bat, ie Joey Harrington, Andre Ware, et ... comes to mind, . It takes a special kind of guy/talent to make it in the NFL under those circumstances, ie Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, among others, .

His completion percentage is better in his second year and the INTs are down but he still doesn't wow me. The 2015 sample is too small to take into consideration.

Among the youngest QBs in the leauge I like Bridgewater, Bortles and Carr a lot more.
I also thought EJ Manuel would be good for the Bills....

I watched him in a couple of games. Consistency is the problem. He reminds me of Aaron Brooks. He does need to scramble more often, and I used to say the same about AB. I wouldn't be mad if we gave him a shot to learn behind Brees and a Sean Payton coached offense.

Yeah, looking at his numbers, they seem incomplete. Did he have a broken jaw this season, or something? I remember some kind of incident, but it didn't seem to be a pattern or consistent with who he is, so I shrugged it off. I interpret 13TD/13INT as maybe improvement over the previous year, but it's still 1:1, which I assume is not desirable among NFL QB's. You can manipulate stats, most times, to show a favorable outcome, but in Geno's case, it's hard, just sayin'.

I really like "Touchdown" Teddy Bridgewater, ... I make fun of him, he plays for the Vikings and has AllDay supporting him, and he is one QB who upped his game one season to the next. Minnesota's gonna' do right by him by building a team around him & challenging for a title, just watch.

Bortles, Carr and Manuel were personally responsible for ruining a lot of my picks this season, ... them guys would play like world-beaters one week, crap-out the next, . I really thought Manuel was the answer in Buffalo, but now they got the Ryan Brothers running the circus, stay tuned, .

Yep, and consistency is a key when you're on a crappy team being coached by a Ryan, IMO, . Thinking about it more, coming from WV, he probably was a scrambling/running QB and tried to become a pocket guy once he got to the NFL ... as least that's my assumption, not being familiar with him. You see that a lot in the NFL, try to fit a square peg in a round hole, #shrug.

I think a mind like Payton and mentor like Brees would do any young QB good ... hmmm, I wonder if the Lions could use him though, Stafford's been there 7-8yrs & while serviceable, doesn't appear to be the answer.

Who knows? The Jet's QB issues are legendary and maybe they should just ride one guy out & focus on the rest of the team until they get that settled, then revisit the QB position, #shrug. One things for sure, I'm glad I'm not a Jet's fan, .

He was actually Teddy Bridgewater esque at WV as far his ability to throw the ball. He just didn't face the toughest of NCAA schedules.
