Surprising they didn't bring him to New Orleans for the emotional factor of playing against the team that released him.

I thought it was said around here that it was a stupid decision by the Saints management to let Spiller go. Why would the Seattle management do exactly the same thing when they are short of healthy RB's to begin with? They must be as stupid as our front office, huh?

Perhaps it was because he isn't as good as what they had hoped.

He had three whole carries for them. That's not much to go on.

Seattle is a power running team. They rely on Wilson's legs, when healthy, the aforementioned running game and their defense. That's not an explosive offense. Their line isn't what it was a couple of years ago, and they don't have Lynch anymore. Spiller isn't a back who fits that team. I'm surprised they signed him at all.

The Saints knew what he was about, and we all assumed he would be used in the Sproles role. Instead they barely used him at all after he finally got on the field last year, and then, after he got healthy and looked like he had his explosion back, they released him.

If they were worried about his ability to fit the system, they shouldn't have signed him. So yes, Guido, it was dumb of the Saints AND Seattle to sign him.

To be fair, the Saints did try to trade him before they cut him outright, but nobody appeared to want him. Could it be that he just appeared to be "explosive" up against second half preseason talent?

His explosion had nothing to do with competition. If you were talking about stats, that would be one thing. For one, he had carries against first team players as well in the preseason. But his explosion was apparent in the way he moved. He was accelerating and cutting much better than last year, when he looked afraid to re-injure himself.

So I personally expected him to have a good year in this offense. Then they cut him.

I didn't hear anything about him being shopped for a trade. He got released so abruptly nobody knew what was going on. But if they were trying to trade him, I'd imagine that late in the preseason nobody was interested in giving something up for a player who wouldn't know anything about their offense. They'd rather pick up a free agent if they need help, is my guess.

Not that the O is a problem but I still feel we should have held onto Sproles.
