Packers to release Aaron Rogers?

Multiple teams complained to the NFL last week that the Packers violated the rules regarding players who are eligible to be placed on injured reserve -- and that Green Bay should have to release quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a result, league sources told ESPN.

NFL rules stipulate that a player needs to have suffered a new injury that would sideline him at least six weeks to be placed on injured reserve. If that is not the case, the team is obligated to release the player once he is healthy.

It's the Packers, so preferential treatment...

Yeah Packers don't have to follow the rules. If it were the Saints, Goodell would fly down personally to make sure everyone got fined and the team screwed.

Even if the Pack were forced to release him, I think he'd just resign with them again.

Perhaps, but there has to be at least some financial implications in doing so.

Think they'll get away with it.
Wonder what tbe hit might be though.
They should have to release him,you know he will sign again but they should get hit with the cap penalties minimum

Just had a quick look and don't think he has dead money on the deal still

Report: Teams want Aaron Rodgers released, complained about IR move

...It is not believed that Rodgers suffered any type of new injury last Sunday against Carolina. If Rodgers didn't suffer a new injury but was placed back on IR anyway, NFL rules stipulate that the Packers would have to release him -- which nobody expects will happen. It is why multiple teams raised the issue. Teams wanted to know why the Packers were being granted immunity...

I could see this going to court and becoming reality after a long hard battle. Another black eye on the NFL. Just what they need. Better to honor the rule and be done with it. Not worth it.

Don't see it getting to court.
Looking at the cap calculator Rogers has no dead money on his deal i can easy see them releasing him and resigning him the same day. Could even work to there benefit by spreading costs with a signing bonus

Unless im wrong with the contract
