I learned a lot about kicking in this video. One thing, NFL kickers don't normally have the strongest legs. What they have is extreme accuracy.
A ball can be kicked much harder with a straight toe kick but accuracy falls off a cliff. That's why Dempsey's record stood for so long with that blunt shoe. That shoe would not be allowed today. Kickers normally wear two different shoes. One is a soccer shoe and the other a normal football cleat.

Kickers can also kick 80 plus yards no problem without pads and no defense. In a game though, they have 1.3 seconds to launch it and the uniform slows down their leg speed by a couple mph which is a big deal.
