Hi from Australia

G,day all,

Thought I'd post this on here and not on the main forum so not to embarrass myself too much with my lack of American football knowledge

Anyway popped in to say hi. I am a big Saints fan even though i dont know too much about your great game (do know the basics after watching for years but obviously the tactics and plays are a bit beyond me - just learnt what "in the shotgun" meant the other day).

There are quite a few N.O. Saints fans in Australia, many like me who are keen passionate supporters of an Australian Football team known as St.Kilda (also the Saints). its currently our off season (coming into summer) and our summer sports are coming about (mainly cricket)

Unfortunately both our teams share some things in common, namely our total lack of success over the years. Our team has been around since 1897 and we have managed to win only one flag (or championship) and that was 40 years ago. One thing opposition fans have adopted from your game is that we have also been nicknamed the Aints.

We get to see the games here on cable TV. Unfortunately i haven't seen too many Saints games except for the first game back at home. Big news in Aust as we all know what happened with Katrina and what the football team means to the city.

Anyway great to see the team 7-1 (i think) and heres hoping for a berth in the play offs.

I'll get some other ignorant Australians to jump on board here and you guys can guide us through. We may even be able to convert some of you to Aussie Rules Ben Graham who punts for the Jets was a big kicking (but pretty poor playing) Aussie Rules player for a team known as Geelong who were nicknamed the handbaggers because they have a reputation for being gutless. i dont know if the Saints play the Jets (told you I was ignorant) but if you used that taunt on Graham, I'm sure it would put him off

Cheers,

GO SAINTS

RE: Hi from Australia

Welcome. St.Kilda Saints huh? Well, I guess we have our 'official' Aussie style football team to root for now. Glad to have you aboard, we'll guide you as best we can.

I'm guessing you don't actually get much NFL news down under, so I'll just tell you the Saints are 5-1 with the Baltimore Ravens up this weekend. We don't play the Jets this year, but it's good to know a taunt or two for the future. For more Saints news and schedules you can always hit NFL.com.

How about a link or two for our brother team in St. Kilda?

Yeah thanks BJSim.

5-1 hey, lol I was getting ahead of myself, anyway if we get 7-1, I'll hail myself a genius.

As I said it is the off season for our football so we are all into our player trading period and draft periods coming. We have a player draft similiar to the NFL and NBA but with various local rules, but apart from that we havent got much to talk about until our pre-season bginning late Feb 2007.

I'll give you a couple of links just for your interest. Just remember the only similarity your football has with ours is that there is a football and the object of the game is to score more than your opponent. About as similiar as baseball is to cricket.

The above link is our version of Black and Gold Country and is known as Saintsational. This is where all the fanatic Saints fans congregate and debate. It gets pretty firey on occasions as our much loved coach of five years was unexpectantly fired after we were knocked out of the play offs.
Many many Saints fans were outraged as it he was only the second coach in our history of nearly 110 years that took us to three play off series in a row. The angst is still being played out on the football forum with the pro and anti sacking camps.

The general forum is used for all thing idiotic. Can get many a good 9/11 conspiracy theorists on that one.

This forum is a genral Australian Rules forum where all the fans of the 16 teams go to to tear strips off each other . This one is very popular in Australia as you can have a great slanging match with an opposition fan and then retire to your own club forum where trolling by opposition fans is not allowed.

if you scroll down you will also see a forum for American football. Many a fan of NFL in Australia. There is a thread about N.O Saints fans on there at present. there are other forums such as the Society religion and Politics forum, where you get everyone from fundamentalist Christian far right looneys, to sharia law Muslim kooks, to even a few antiquanted commies. Very interesting.

Have a look if you are bored and introduce yourself, you will get a very nice reception especially at Saintsational.

Cheers mate,

Go SAINTS.
