Why Hammerin' Hank is still the king

So Barry Bonds broke the record last night. Big frappin' dealio. Yes, it's true. I cannot stand (and I mean loath) Barry (insert expletive here) Bonds. For me, Hank is the king, and here are a few reasons why:

1). Steroids. Barry juiced. Hank didn't. Pretty simple stuff. And before all the 'he's never been convicted' people get their panties all wadded up, let me suggest that it ain't rocket science. Being convicted isn't the same as being guilty. Ask OJ...anybody here that honestly thinks Barry Bond didn't take steroids either isn't paying attention or has an agenda. Whether is was against the rules when he started juicing doesn't matter either. It's an advantage he had that Hank didn't.

2). Body Armor. Barry walks to the plate covered from head to toe in padding. This allows him to crowd the plate fearlessly. He's done this all the way back to his Pirate days. I'm not sure if he was the starter of this trend, but he's a founding member of the "I'm a ***** and can't walk to the plate without all this protective padding" club. As I recall, Hank didn't even wear batting gloves. It takes a big man to crowd the plate and stare down a 95 MPH fast ball without wearing all that crap. This is something Barry never did.

3). Pitching part one. Pitchers don't throw inside like they used to. It's a fact that cannot be argued. Once was the time that pitchers owned the inner half of the plate. It took a real man to dig in on that line. No More. There are a scarce few hurlers with the bravado to own that real estate in there anymore.

4). Pitching part two. If I'm not mistaken (and I don't have exact numbers), Hank hit somewhere around half of his homers before the mound was lowered, taking a significant advantage away from pitchers.

5). Racial disadvantage. Yes. I said 'racial disadvantage'. Barry and other players like Gary Sheffield wanna whine about race...that's fine, and not entirely out of order in a few and what I consider to be rare cases (although I think they take it WAY too far most times), but no player today has had to endure .01% of what Hank and other players in his era endured. This was magnified x10 for Henry because he was chasing a white man's record that was/is the greatest record in sports.

6). It's been nice to look at the greatest record in sports and associate that with a man who has class, and Henry is ate up with class. Bonds, unfortunately, for all his raw God-given talent (and he's a very talented baseball player) is as big a ***** as there is walking today. Bonds is selfish. His former teammates have provided any proof required. How many of you are aware that Bary 'me me me' Bonds was actually voted off his college baseball team by his teammates? True story. Bonds is rude to the media and his fans, the very people that provide him the stage he performs on. Hank wakes up every morning and pisses more class into his toilet than Bonds will manage in his lifetime. Yes people. That matters.

And so, it's a sad day. Bonds is a heckuva baseball player. Isn't is sad that he was probably Hall of Fame material before he decided he'd juice up? I'm sad for Ken Griffey Jr. If not for injury maybe he'd be the record holder. Too bad for sure, but, Bonds won't take the record much further. He's old, and thanks to the juice his body is beginning to crash. Isn't that the irony anyway? The thing that helped get him to the top of the mountain is the very thing pulling him off the peak from the other side. Welcome to life 101 Mr. Bonds, you *****. I hope they stick you with tax evasion too.

I totally agree with everything you said! The only comfort we have is that he won't hold that record for a long time. It's a sad day for baseball that this clown is their representative and it has nothing to do with race. It's all about class and giving back to the sport and the fans.

The only thing I disagree with is this crap that the homerun record is the greatest record in sports. BS!

The greatest sports record hasn't even been set yet: 50 TD passes in one regular season. It's attainable, but even the best ever in the NFL have only come close (Manning has 49).

I want to see a record that has meaning for a team. Look at all the Career records and when they are set. You'll see one important factor: it didn't mean squat for the team that year in terms of performance. Ask yourself this:

How has Bonds setting this record helped the Giants make the playoffs this year? It hasn't.

In what way did Emmitt Smith's breaking of Payton's career rushing record help his team into the playoffs? It didn't.

In what way did Ripken's Iron Man record help his team into the playoffs? It didn't.

I'm not saying those teams didn't make the playoffs - just that the performance that broke the record didn't help. I'm not saying that those players didn't help their teams to the playoffs along the way while setting the records. But along the time when it actually comes to breaking the records, it doesn't help the team at all on the field.

You get a QB that throws 50 TDs and you can say well in advance that the team he plays for is going to the playoffs.

Perhaps I should have said 'Greatest Individual Record in Sports'? Either way it's subjective and an entirely different topic. Bonds is a looser, and that's the point I'm trying to make here. :)

As suspicions of steroid usage gained in volume and as federal investigators doggedly stayed on the case, the defense from his camp never wavered. Barry Bonds never flunked a drug test, they argued.

That argument is no longer valid, or so says the government in a 10-page indictment lodged Thursday against the 43-year-old Bonds. In making a case that Bonds perjured himself when he told a grand jury that he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs, federal attorneys allege in the indictment that they have evidence he has tested positive.

The telling point from the indictment reads: "During the criminal investigation, evidence was obtained including positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances for Bonds and other professional athletes."

Sooooo, where's the "He never failed a drug test" crowd now?

Oh how sweet it is. LMMFAO

He looked you square in the eye and lied. He stood in front of a Grand Jury and lied his ass off. What you call hatred I call deserved. His misrepresented himself and he cheated the fans, the players, and the game.
