Feds award city $45M for Loyola streetcar loop

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced today the city of New Orleans will receive a $45 million grant to build a streetcar loop on Loyola Avenue from Canal Street to the Union Passenger Terminal.

The project was one of 51 announced in the awarding of $1.5 billion in Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER, grants. The New Orleans streetcar project received the 11th largest TIGER grant, with the Crescent Corridor Intermodal Freight Rail Project in Tennessee and Alabama at the top of the list at $105 million.
