Prepping for the NOLA trip - questions

My GF and I leaving for NOLA, driving down from South Dakota. Should be there on 30th or 31st at the latest. Got tix for the Bucs/Saints game :-)

I want to get a tattoo of a Saints fleur-de-lis on my leg, do you guys have any advice for good tattoo shops down near the French Qtr or Superdome area that would be open on 31st, 1st or 2nd in NOLA?

Also, any restaurants or New Years Eve hotspots that you think are must-sees?

I got my fleur de lis tat at NOLA tattoo, but it is out of the French Quarter If you take the St Charles Streetcar out to Camellia's Grill(which is a great place to eat by the way) it is around the corner. The owner of NOLA was/is friend's with Kat Von D who has her own tv show. You just need to make a reservation. I am very happy with mine:)

I live three blocks from the Camellia Grill and the NOLA tattoo place. I can't speak for NOLA, but the Camellia Grill is ridiculous.

As far as New Year's Eve, the main hotspot is the quarter. There's a ball drop and everything.

Also make sure to check out Frenchman St., just downriver of the quarter. It's Bourbon St. for locals. If you're into local music, Kermit Ruffins of "Treme" fame is having a New Year's Eve party there starting at 10.

Driving?

Kudos to you and hope you have a blast down here. Go to Pat O's and get a hurricane.

Thanks! First visit to NOLA. I am a heathen non-drinker, may have to try a virgin hurricane (which sounds kind of weird).

If you have the cash(figure 200 for two) commander's palace is the grand old dame of New Orleans restaurants. And if you're interested in a meal straight from fantasy land, go to Galatoire's also make sure to get a po-boy or three. Shrimp, roast beef, hot sausage. All good. And muffalettas are out of this world, though a bit harder to find.

Or go to Tommy's Cuisine on Tchoupitoulas St beside of Emeril's or Feelings Cafe which is 2600 Chartres St. It is more off the touristy stretch and is the best food in a quiet neighborhood. A little expensive, but not too bad considering the food and ambience and since you don't drink, it would probably be a lot cheaper anyway! Don't know how long your drive is, but we often drive from NC and it only takes us about 12.5 hrs. The streets are hard on your car's shocks so don't drive too fast in NOLA!!
