Technical question: Why is BBcode broken?

For those of you who know me, I'm an avid quoter. But BBcode is broken! :(

Can it be fixed? Will it be fixed soon?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Followup: Interesting. I put a quote in this message below... and it showed up properly. Is it only the main football board that's having a problem?

SFIAH

When quoting starts working again. This quote will be quoted properly.

Technical question: Why is BBcode broken?

An avid quoter...I\'m nt sure why, but that\'s funny. LOL

Here\'s why SFIAH. This is Halo\'s msg to the masses regarding the issue:

Guys,

I had to disable most sig pics and avatars because we are growing dangerously close to our bandwith max for the month. If we exceed the bandwith (like last month) we can either take a hefty fine or the account will be suspended.

At this point, with me personally paying the host costs, it will get suspended. So to keep it going I have turned smiles, sigs and avatars off until the end of the month.

If you have a sig that exceeds 100 x 350, please crop it down. If you have a sig at all, please turn it off until November.

Native sig pics like \"sunshiners / moonshiners\" have been temporarily turned off.

This is temporary and we are making plans to move to a home that will be perminent and without interruption.

I am sorry for the incovenience but this is a cost cutting measure. Traffic has exceeded expectations again and the site is larger and has more traffic than ever in it\'s history!!

We appreciate your patronage and please excuse our growing pains.

Technical question: Why is BBcode broken?

Thanks for the explanation.

A second technical question. The board seems to be disallowing HTML in posts.
While I realize that there may be a security implication or three, we\'re all good folks here, right? If we can pass raw HTML then we can format our own posts as needed.

Just curious...

Technical question: Why is BBcode broken?

SFAH - Halo is really the only guy who can answer this, but I don\'t know that it\'s specifically disallowed. I think it may have more to do with how the DB stores the posts, and more importantly, for the scripting language parses and writes out the pages... but I don\'t get to see the backend, so don\'t take my word for it. He may well have disallowed it purposely.

Hi SFIAH,

It\'s not for security, actually it has to do with the bandwith. With it enabled you can post huge photos that can be re-posted and quoted and I can\'t always control the size of that photo. If the post is quoted, it is re-printed in the subsequent post. All of these things effect our bandwith because your computer must download that image from our site each time it\'s viewed, sometimes serveral times in a thread.

I will turn them back on in a week.

Halo
