Looked for BnB's post about quitting smoking but I couldn't find it.

Anyway, I said back then that I'd wait until the end of football season to quit. Officially, I suppose that's true. I quit last week after smoking my last pack to the Saints missing the playoffs.

Been clean for a week now. Wife bought me a Playstation 2 to give me something to do with my hands when I'm at home, and it's been a remarkable help. But I still feel like I could murder a busload of orphans if provoked.

BnB, where you at? Did you make it? Any other quitters out there? After a clean week, I'm needing a little encouraging news...

I said I would quit smoking when the Saints season was over, however, I haven\'t kept my part of the bargain. Times too stressful right about now to do some something drastic.

I quit almost 2 years ago. My Doctor told me if I continued I\'d be dead soon. I now have a fun little disease called COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dead air stays in my lungs with no way out. I hope this scares you enough to continue your test. and believe me it\'s a test, everyday I still think about smoking but I kinda like living, even if I can\'t do the things I used to love to do. Good luck to you but most of all, look at your wife and kids and remember you\'ll have them much longer if you stop. If I can help you let me know.

Five feet high and rising...

I had my last cigarette the night before thanksgiving. I\'m 32 but I\'d been smoking since I was 13. It got to where I couldn\'t walk up a flight of stairs without feeling my heart rate rise and needing a little air. Since I\'ve quit I don\'t get up in the morning and cough up some brown crap out of my lungs, and my energy level is waaaaaaay up. I overall feel a whole lot better.

With that being said I really miss smoking. Everyday I want one, and usually 4-5 times a day. The only thing that keeps me going is that I\'ve got so much time invested in quitting this time, and considering that I\'d been smoking for the better part of 19 years, it\'s not crazy to think that I could have lung cancer by the time I\'m 35. That would make my oldest son 17, my other son 13, and my daughter 10. I really want to see them grow up and have families of their own.

So, I will not start back up again. It sucks because I really want one. But I know in my heart that I absolutely cannot have one. If I have just one there is a strong possibility that I won\'t be able to put \'em down again and I could be dead by 40. Whatever you do, don\'t fool yourself into thinking that you can have just one. You can\'t. I like the PS2 thing. Anything that keeps you from lighting up. I wish you the absolute best of luck. Feel free to email me if you need some advice, or to vent. I might need it from someone myself.

Thanks for the support, guys. I need all the encouragement I can get! And good luck to you too, Kevin.

But - all things considered - I\'m hanging in there pretty well. It\'s sorta hard to explain ... I don\'t really want a smoke, I just wanna quit feeling so irritable. Considering the troubles I\'ve had trying to quit in the past, this has actually been much easier than I thought it was gonna be. I guess (hope) this time I\'ve really made my mind up.

I was starting to notice negative health effects, too. I\'m 27 and had been smoking about 8-9 years, but my heart rate and blood pressure were already getting higher than they should be for my age. Had the ol\' smoker\'s cough, and couldn\'t even THINK about going for a jog. Started getting disgusted with how out of shape I\'ve become, and quitting smoking seemed like the logical first place to start trying to improve.

Been drinking lots of water, hitting the treadmill and trying to eat sensibly - and get this, I\'ve actually LOST weight over the week-or-so I\'ve been quit! I don\'t expect that to last, but hey, it\'s at least encouraging for now.

Maybe I\'ll quit drinking beer, start eating granola & tofu, and become one of those militant anti-smoking health nuts ...

:icon23:

Or maybe not ...

:beer2:

Made it clean for over four weeks now ... I guess that\'s long enough to consider myself a non-smoker?

I\'ll credit my success (so far) to mass quantities of Tootsie-Roll Pops and hours of Madden 2005 on the aforementioned PS2. Interesting side note, Aaron Brooks isn\'t nearly as lousy on Madden as he is in real life.

Comes down to coaching and play calling, I guess ... LOL!!!

See you all at Mardi Gras!!! Where I\'ll be ... :beer2:

Still safe to trust me!
