Prytania Theatre screens Billy Wilder classic The Apartment
About a half-century before TV's Mad Men there was a movie called The Apartment that similarly depicted a unique period of cultural transition as it occurred in the early 1960s, particularly ? or perhaps, first ? in New York City. The Manhattan of director Billy Wilder's black-and-white masterpiece is one in which sexual mores have undergone a sudden and seismic shift, even as society's attitudes toward women remain stuck in the 19th century.?
