Anthony Davis Tempting Quadruple-Double Dreamers

New Orleans Pelicans second-year stud Anthony Davis has been making a habit of posting outrageous stat lines lately. In the Pelicans' 105-98 win over the Utah Jazz on Nov. 20, he piled up 22 points, nine rebounds, eight blocks and four assists.

It was the second consecutive game in which Davis had logged that many swats, putting him in rare company, per NBA.com:

Achievements like that make it fair to start wondering about his ability make some box score history.

That's right, Davis is doing things that make the fabled quadruple-double seem possible.

Putting up double digits in four statistical categories is basically the holy grail of single-game statistical achievements. Actually, it's more precious than that. It's like seeing a unicorn drinking from the holy grail while riding the Loch Ness monster.

Per SportsCity.com, just four players have pulled off the feat in NBA history: David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Alvin Robertson and Nate Thurmond. Nobody has done it since Olajuwon last managed the trick in 1994.

In order to join that club, Davis will have to take some pretty big steps in the assists and/or steals category. He's currently averaging an easy double-double in points and rebounds, and we know he's a legitimate threat to surpass 10 blocks because he's come so close in his past two games.

But his career high in assists is just four, a number he matched against Utah in his most recent game. On the one hand, assists are one of the stats that his teammates could help him inflate. But on the other, he's got a long way to go before he approaches 10 in a game.

Steals, though, might be an easier route.

Davis swiped six of them against the Charlotte Bobcats on Nov. 2, and his unparalleled combination of long arms and active hands makes it feasible for him to exceed that total in the future.

It's hard to definitively say whether or not we'll ever see Davis achieve a feat as remarkable as a quadruple-double. But one thing's for sure: If anybody in the league can do it, it's him.
