What is a child in the heart of Oakland with no relatives supposed to do if his or her mother is more interested in Crack than her kids and Daddy left long ago? I could never say it should be left to friends and neighbors.
As I've said, I don't want such a program to be abused and so incentive to get people OFF such programs, rather than incentive to stay on them, is key. If there are better options, I'm all for them. Let's hear 'em. Let's discuss them. Let's push our politicians to enact them. This, in my opinion, is an excellent way for our leaders to spend their time. With what we give (without our having any say so in the matter) to people who are here illegally, there is no excuse for any of America's children to go hungry. None whatsoever. You and I have agreed on most topics such as this over the years, and I'm sure we'll agree on many more, but I'm afraid on this one we may just have to agree to disagree. |

I don't want kids to go hungry, but when I hear there are already over 170 government programs that aid the poor, I have a hard time believing free breakfast and lunch are necessary at all. Our school system is an even bigger failure than liberal policies and a free lunch and breakfast is wasteful (or redundant if you prefer). It plays on heartstrings, and too many folks fall for it hook line and sinker. And trust me, after 3 years volunteering on a United Way Allocations Committee I know all about plucking those heartstrings in order to gain as much funding as possible. |

Mitt Romney is basically that in a nutshell. Your results don't surprise me at all. |

Oh, ok, that makes it a little more palatable ... plus his daddy was once the governor of Michigan, so Mitt's more or less my homeboy ... different side of the tracks ... still don't know how it came out at 95% though, I didn't think I agreed with Romney on all that much.

Your mistake in THIS thread pales in comparison to the blasphemy Slomo committed in the other thread. You will be allowed to continue to live.
