Yet you still support public school lunch and breakfast programs?

Yes. I do. I don't like the thought of kids going hungry. That their parents are irresponsible isn't their fault. I don't want those programs abused however, and that's the problem. And it isn't just the poor kids abusing them. Kids who don't need the help show up all summer long and use the school as a place to hang, and the school is powerless to stop the practice even though (even in Northern California of all places) it wants to, because it would love to spend that money on education.

America has plenty of money to spend on programs like free school lunch and even breakfast if we'd stop spending it on stupid crap like, oh, I don't know, allowing illegal immigrants to abuse a system they pay nothing for maybe? Can you just image how much GOOD we could do if we'd actually put aside the desire to appease in the name of votes and instead chose to operate on the desire to take care of our own, stop the abuse of assistance programs, and otherwise remove political pork from the budget?

I got discounted school lunch from age 13 through my high school graduation. My father was disabled by a brain tumor when I was ... well, 13 obviously ... and my mother was paid pennies working in (ironically) the school lunchroom.

I'm not trying to start any crap, y'all know I rarely post in the political threads ... but I don't think of my parents as "irresponsible." My dad worked hard as long as he was able, and we had a pretty tough time after he got sick.

Disagree completely. Its not my responsibility to feed someone else's kid.

What happens during the Summer? Do they starve for 3 months?

There are already programs out there to help feed kids who's parents can't afford to. The school lunch and breakfast program should be eliminated immediately if not sooner.

I don't readily know what those other programs are. Out here kids can eat at school year round. Mama and Daddy may piss their money away on getting high, I don't know. I don't want to see kids going hungry is all Danno, and if there are better programs than reduced or free lunches for kids I'm all for what keeps them fed. I absolutely want to stop the abuse of that or of any other program.

If you think its the Federal Government's job to be these kids mommies and daddies then I can't believe you scored 96% Libertarian.

Maybe my support of school lunch is the missing 4%. LOL What I do think is that we can't turn our backs on kids. I have some trashy neighbors who have the most precious little 7 year old girl. It isn't her fault Danno. I don't want to subsidize her crappy Mom and Dad, but I don't want the country to turn its back on its children. Let me say that I'd rather feed them than watch them starve, at nearly all costs.
