Thurston Howell Romney

this is a discussion within the Poli-Sci Community Forum; http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/18/op...ll-romney.html His father recieved assistance. His VP running mate recieved assistance. Yet, everyone who is or has are lazy, lacking motivation, and are only interstested in a handout. A person couldn't be more out of touch....

Again? Really? Are you really that ignorant?

Out of touch does come to mind, but I'm not thinking Romney at all.

I'm starting to think you're really a Republican just trying to make Democrats look stupid.

Clearly you didn't read the article. Reading takes effort. Comprehending takes an open mind. The jaws of life couldn't open yours up. LOL. Everything in the article is factual.

Cleary you are wrong again. Not EVERYONE who receives assistance is "lazy, lacking motivation, and are only interstested in a handout"

Nowhere did Romney or any Republican ever say that. EVER

Get a clue dude, you're totally out of touch with reality and I think you may need some help. Nearly every post you make states some ridiculous stereotype you've been fed from the liberal elite establishment.

The fact that you've already criticized people because of their skin color is proof enough to me that you have no clue what an open mind is. Its bigotry or racist at its worst. Either way it discredits everything you post.

So don't preach your version of open-mindedness to anyone here. Its disgusting and hypocritical, much like the party you suck up to.

Congratulations for finally putting a link to support your comment. The only trouble is that your link points to a NY Times article which mentions nothing about his father receiving assistance, or whatever else you are attempting to assert in this thread.

This article, btw, has quite a few truths in it. Here is one.
There are sensible conclusions to be drawn from these facts. You could say that the entitlement state is growing at an unsustainable rate and will bankrupt the country.
Here is another.
Forty-seven percent of the country, he said, are people “who are dependent upon government, who believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to take care of them, who believe they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”
Here are some falsehoods.
This spending surge, Eberstadt notes, has increased faster under Republican administrations than Democratic ones.
The final thing the comment suggests is that Romney knows nothing about ambition and motivation
The writer is correct about the moochers and the makers. He forgot to mention the looters, the elected officials and many unions.
Romney, who criticizes President Obama for dividing the nation, divided the nation into two groups: the makers and the moochers.
I could go on...but here is another important point to note. The Pew is totally biased and not objective. Not only is their sample tilted, but also is their reporting. The same could be said for most of the so called mainstream media's reporting. It is laughable that they even attempt to make it pass as even remotely objective.

The 47% mentioned in this article, btw, was totally purposefully misconstrued in an attempt to besmirch Gov. Romney. While he did not admittedly adroitly articulate his point for the masses to fully comprehend, he was actually conveying his understanding that 47% of the Americans do not pay taxes at all, yet are on the national nipple, and that he was not focusing on their vote because he understands that they have a vested interest in NOT voting out the current president, naturally, for fear of actually having to get a job.

No?

“All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims , who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it.”

I read the article and didn't see anything about George Romney or Paul Ryan receiving assistance. I don't really care about Paul Ryan, but Mitt's father was the CEO of American Motors (that auto company that brought us the Rambler, Pacer, Gremlin & Javelin) and the Governor of Michigan and is pretty well-respected. I'd be interested in seeing something factual to back that claim.

This whole hubbub over Romney's statement reminds me of the Obama remark about people 'clinging to their guns & bibles' ... what are we arguing over? Which candidate is more out of touch or has the biggest gaffs when they're off their teleprompter? Just like the polls, it's a neck-n-neck race, .

... I see it for that and expect both parties to descend much further into the depths of the 'National Enquirer' style of campaigning before it's all over. Being from Michigan and learning at a young age what great things George Romney did for the State and the auto industry, I find it hard to believe he was ever in the position to receive govt. assistance. When he was younger & possibly eligible, I don't think those type of programs existed, and he certainly didn't need it after going to work for AMC.

It doesn't change my opinion of him one way or the other, I just question the accuracy of that statement in regards to George Romney & would like some verification, if possible.

Re: Thurston Howell Romney

George Romney was on welfare. Who gives a sh**? Lots of good people were and are; it's not a crime. It is a crime to abuse the benefits, and sorry, but that is not a liberal/conservative issue.
