We hold the officials in the NFL to such a high, exacting standard that they are receiving death threats, regardless if they're to be taken seriously or not, yet there's hardly a peep over 535+ 'officials' in WashDC driving this country to the brink ... <scratches head> ... |

Wisconsin Gov. Walker fought to bust unions for teachers and firefighters. I mean teaching kids and saving lives isn't important. But, the Packers lose a football game and he wants to get the union refs back to work. LOL.

Maybe it is because they are in a union that this is happening. There are, after all, many many unions that need busting. These times have passed up their usefulness for the most part.

Right now, the only union I see really looking out for it's members above it's own interests is the United Food and Commercial Worker's Union that covers a few of the local grocery chains. They do a good job of negotiating fairly without gouging the corporations but still taking care of the membership. Most unions I've been in or around has a lot of complaining members, not the UFCW, everybody's pretty happy. The UAW, teacher's unions & govt. unions could learn a lot from these guys. |

Re: I find this ironic ...
Unions in large part built this nation. The were necessary in our nations early development. Now, not so much with all the agencies involved monitoring the workplace. For example, a local manufactoring plant that had been open and providing 300+ jobs for the area for 80+ years recently closed due to union demands. A new employee started at $15/hr with most making $25+/hr. They simply demanded too much and the owner shut it down. They earned a fair to better wage with good benefits. Now, they're unemployed and competing for the few jobs out there.

That practice of starting new hires in at a lower scale while culling the higher scale employees through retirement/attrition has been pretty popular with the Big Three since the early/mid 90's and seems to be in line with their whole 'downsizing' philosophy. I think I heard something recently about them finally structuring the new contracts so the new hires can reach a higher tier of salary within 10yrs instead of 'never', but I don't pay that close attention anymore because I doubt if I'll ever work for one of the Big Three ever again. |
