Take the test SmashMouth, Danno. Then, be honest with the results. Please. I personally put your over/under at 5.

Re: Are You Smarter Than A Fox News Viewer?

Here's the problem with the premise of these "tests". In case you have not gone back to college recently, one has to regurgitate the answer that is expected from the professor, whether it is actually correct or not. Many of the school books and course curriculum have been rewritten to paint a certain narrative. The same can be said of this test. The questions are carefully crafted for the elicitation of a certain answer, sort of like the questions asked by the media. While the CS Monitor is likely not widely considered a left media source, it is still biased as all really are anyway, yes even Fox News. So based on what we are led to believe from all media sources, the answer to all of the questions in this "test" are self-evident. A score of 11 is easily attained, as I got, of course. If one were to dig deeper into the formulation of the questions, one discovers a certain vagueness intended to confuse us. For example when it states most economists, or most scientists, the question ought to be more skillfully crafted to specifically state which economists or which scientists. And we're not even getting into the nomenclature of the bills themselves, for which the very intend IS to distract us from the very purpose of the legislation. For example, "Obama's latest so called jobs bill". really just more spending. Question number two's answer is easily challenged by the findings from the OMB. Question number four on climate change is rather stupid... I mean isn't climate change always occurring. It's not specific enough, the question, really. Number nine is child's play as any buffoon who is watching news knows or should know of the payroll deduction decrease on your checks, right? Number ten was a big news story when Obama listened to David Petraeus. Number eleven asks an opinion. While I am not a birther, there still remain unanswered questions that could easily be put to rest if the will were there. Why won't Obama release his college transcripts?
So while these "tests" are cute and entertaining to a certain extent, they are hardly a measuring stick as you may suggest they may be.

These things entertain the simple-minded. The rest of us don't waste our time.

LOL. This is how I know any hope of changing your mind on anything is impossible. When things like facts, scientific consensus, and peer reviewed research is dismissed as irrelevant. A million econmists don't know more about the economy than you. A million scientist don't know more about science than you do. There's no possibility that experts in their field have a better grasp of these topics than you do. It's all just a media conspiracy. LOL. This attitude encapsulates an overwhelming majority of the Republican party. When faced with facts, simply ignore them, and then attack the facts as somehow tainted.

ok....

Environmental scientist James Lovelock, renowned for his terrifying predictions of climate change's deadly impact on the planet, has gone back on his previous claims, admitting they were 'alarmist'.
The 92-year-old Briton, who also developed the Gaia theory of the Earth as a single organism, has said climate change is still happening - just not as quickly as he once warned.
He added that other environmental commentators, such as former vice president Al Gore, are also guilty of exaggerating their arguments.
The admission comes as a devastating blow to proponents of climate change who regard Lovelock as a powerful figurehead.
