And that's exactly what the Union is pushing for, and that's exactly why those plants are closing.

They don't own the company sir. They didn't risk anything to build it. It doesn't belong to them.

When times are good they negotiate sweet deals - when times are bad they don't want to give an inch. It's an old, well repeated story. Pick an industry and it has been victimized by a union.

Unions had a place in this country a long time ago. That time has long since passed. How many companies and municipalities are going to have to go under at the hands of unions before the workers themselves realize the union has only it's leader's best interests in mind and not that of the workers? I guess we'll have to wait and see...

They won't sell out. They'll move the plant to place that is worker friendly. See Danno's post.

Re: Go On Strike and We'll Close the Plant.

I can't wrap my mind around why people think everyone should be paid the same. When you graduated from college; did you rush out to earn at $25K year job? No, you didn't. You wanted the highest paying job.

The problem with America is that most people really think that they are suppose to have the same things (iPhones, iPads, $50K car or truck, $300K house and what have you). Well, if you dropped out of school, dont have a GED, no college; what kind of job do you think you are going to get? A CEO, Manager, Supervisor????

That's like saying, because I am in the Army that we should all get paid the same. Just because we are in the Army. Well, I know more than a E1-E6. I have more experience, more knowledge, more schooling than they do. Same as with an Officer. I chose to be an Enlistedman, an NCO. Others chose to be Officers. Now, I can't get pissy because I know more than a 2nd or 1st Lieutant, because he/she may get paid more than me. I had the chance to become an Office but chose not too.

Listen. Here's how I feel about equality. Each of us have the same opportunities as everybody else. Some have easier paths, some have harder paths. If you have any pride about yourself, then you have to make it on your own. Nobody will look out for you better than you. I was brought up in a high middle-class home until the age of 15. Then my parents got a divorce and me and my dad lived in a 3 room (not BEDROOM, but ROOM) shack in the middle of the woods. I had to quit school my senior year just to help my dad keep us afloat. I did without, on a lot of things. Drove a $300 car for years. Got my GED. Join ed the Guard. Worked my butt off. Became Asst Manager for Little Ceasers, got promoted to GM; got "HeadHunted" by Pizza Hut and became a GM for them. Left Pizza Hut, became a Cop. Wanted to do something more; went to College for Law Enforcement. After that, I partnered with a friend and built houses. Business failed. Started over. Got an Active Duty job with they Guard and now I am 6 years away from retirement. 6 years away from owning my home. Have 3 vehicles and trying to live the Americian dream.

Now what does all that get me too? Well, I have made things easier for my children. They will have advantages that I didn't. The old saying "Whoever dies with the most toys, wins" is B.S. If you want to leave a legacy for yourself; it's your kids. My kids don't get handed everything. I make them earn it.

Instead of American's trying to "Keep up with the Jones' ". Live a lifestyle that YOU can afford. It is not a God given right to have cable TV, a cell phone, a computer with internet, an expensive car or truck, $10K tires and rims, a $5K car audio system.

If you want those things. Go earn them. Don't sit in the walfare line with your "Nails glitter painted and hair done, while you talk on an iPhone" and go get in your $40K car to drive to the governement house you live in.

If you need governement assistance. You better not have all the luxuries of life.

People want to talk about what's fair and what's not fair. Well, it's not fair that I work my ass off and scrape by each week and someone who collects a government check has done nothing and still gets to live however they want.

That is what Boeing is doing in South Carolina with the Dreamliner.

Re: Go On Strike and We'll Close the Plant.

“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” Hostess CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said in announcing that the firm had filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to shutter its business. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”
Hostess Brands Inc. had warned employees that it would file to unwind its business and sell off assets if plant operations didn't return to normal levels by 5 p.m. Thursday. In announcing its decision, Hostess said its wind down would mean the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores in the United States.

There's your union. 18,500 employees out of work becaus they wanted to throw a tantrum. Everyone of them will now become wards of the state because there are no jobs out there for them. Now I will be paying their paycheck, and that pisses me off.

And the flip side of the coin, management puts all those people out of work instead of giving them a small raise, sad, sad day to be a working man in todays world!!

Couldn't they just relocate to a right-to-work state and tell the unions to shove up their collective asses?

Well, the article states that it is based in Irving, Texas. And of course, Texas is one of those right-to-work states. They must be dealing with multiple unions in multiple states. The article also states it is not their first rodeo with Chapter 11. The company was likely on the brink anyway for likely a plethora of reasons, not the least of which were the overburdening costs associated with all of the unions they were dealing with.

I wonder if its similar to Boeing wanting to move to Carolina to avoid union hassels, but were not allowed to because they were union in other areas.
