If you’ve been listening to me for any time at all you will know that I absolutely LOVE this story. I love it when idiot union members – unthinking mobs – shoot themselves in the foot. It’s happened again, and I’ll try not to laugh out loud as I tell you about it.

Hostess Brands … you know, the folks who make Twinkies, Ho Hos and other such goodies as well as Wonder Bread, declared bankruptcy last January. Now this was a Chapter 11 bankruptcy. That means that Hostess was asking the Bankruptcy Court for protection from its creditors as it tried to reorganize so that the business would be profitable and sustainable. Hostess asked for, and the court granted, permission to force certain concessions regarding wages on benefits on the labor unions representing its workers. This is why we have Chapter 11 bankruptcies. The theory behind Chapter 11 is that it is better to allow a company to reorganize by restructuring its debt and agreements with labor unions than it is for the company to simply shut down and put all of the workers on the streets and the lenders with unpaid loans.

Well … as you might expect … the union workers didn’t like this even one little bit. The took a strike vote and prepared to walk out. Hostess CEO Gregory Rayburn made it clear to the unions and to the media that he would flat-out close – shut down – any Hostess facilities that were no longer able to produce and deliver products because of union action. The unions chose to ignore his warning and went on strike last Friday. Who knows, maybe they were feeling emboldened by the victory of their hero Barack Obama. At three plants non-union workers refused to cross the union picket lines, and these locations were permanently closed. Over 650 union jobs … gone.

Now on the show today you’re going to hear some audio from one of these union members. You will hear him say that “all you want to do is just take our jobs away from us.” Well, union dude, here’s a hint. Those are NOT your jobs. Those jobs belong to the company – to Hostess. They created those jobs, not you. You were looking for a job. They had a job. You found the job. It’s theirs. They let you do it in exchange for money and benefits. You didn’t give them a damn thing. You traded work for money.

By the way, union dude, you need to brush up on your English before you go looking fo another gig. It’s a buyer’s market right now. Potential employers aren’t impressed with people who say “we ain’t got no ….” Just a friendly hint.

There are several more cases where either the company moved out of town or backed the unions into a corner:

Harley-Davidson

"The company was prepared to close its factories in York, Menomonee Falls and Tomahawk if the labor unions had not agreed to contract concessions that resulted in job losses, the wage freeze and reduced benefits. It was ready to build a new factory in Kentucky."

The old union methods of applying pressure don't work anymore. Companies are straight up telling them, go right ahead.

I'm not a Union man. Never been a fan of them. I don't know many companies that don't acknowledge good and hard work. Unions are a "hideaway" for criminals to scam money.

I say shut down and move to another city, State; that doesn't want a union. Move to the South. Not too union friendly down here.

That is exactly what is starting to happen. I mentioned in another thread, Caterpillar moved to TX. They are now turning record profits. The union party is over.

On the other hand{union fed since birth and a mom that would be on welfare after father died if not for the union}maybe some of these companies with their CEO's and COO that get those millions of dollar bonuses and travel expenses for the millions of dollars even billions of dollar companies that want give a raise to the blue-collar worker that basically has made a million or billion dollar co. so that a CEO or COO can live the lifestyle that none yes {none} of the blue-collar workers will never ever taste, well thats pretty damn pathetic to me. The price of living is not and I repeat not going down and at a rate of 6% a year the working man should have some compensation( cost of living ajustment) so their will be a middle class left in America today. If these companies are left with all the power and say-so I as a working man feel that I will need to be put on goverment subsistance and most know where that leads, welfare, meaning higher taxes for all. So a little raise might not be such a bad thing every now and then, hell the white-collar has been screwing the blue-collar for years and if the white-collar after their projected earnings and their millions to billions profit margin can't seem to cut a small yes, small % out of their pocket to keep things on at least a plain for their workers who made them, well in my opionin it's all about greed!! See Halloween, that's the problem with Libs. It's always somebody else's fault. It's always the rich guys fault. Well, in this case, the workers have nobody to blame but themselves. The CEO was providing over 650 jobs. He was working, making deals, to be able to keep the plant open, and to keep these jobs. And since they were union jobs, I'm sure they were probably overpaying jobs. These 650 people had the opportunity to keep their jobs, to continue to provide for their families, to continue to pay their house and car notes, but they, the workers, made a conscious decision to piss it all away. They chose to roll the dice on their future, and they lost. Now, we have 650 more bloodsuckers, sucking on the government tit to provide them with an income. Instead of getting off their asses, and getting back to work, they chose the lazy way out, and went on strike. Well, what did that get them? Nothing...absolutly nothing. I don't feel sorry for these people in the least. They deserved everything they got. I do, hoever, feel sorry for their kids, and spouses, and the community that this plant is located in. They are the real victims in this, not the workers.

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, ...

And one of the most prominent economic prognasticators around (his name escapes me at the moment ) said the number one place in the United States for businesses over the next several years is... you guessed it, South Alabama.

And often its not the workers, but the Union leaders. Several years ago a Goodyear hose plant in the midwest threatend to close and move if the over-paid workers didn't take a 10% paycut. The workers actually voted to approve the cuts but the Union leaders refused to conceed.

The plant closed and moved.

Now we get to see if the CEO and his clonies can get on the line and earn their pay,probably not, thats the trouble with finger pointers, there to big for their own good. I hope they sell out and another company comes in union friendly.
