Florida restaurateur to impose surcharge for Obamacare
Get ready to pay more from your Grand Slam.
A Florida restaurateur who operates roughly 40 Denny’s locations and five Hurricane Grill & Wings franchises throughout the state intends to add a 5 percent surcharge to customers’ bill to offset costs for Obamacare in January 2014 when the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented. “People are trying to find ways to avoid the penalties and to avoid having to pay for Obamacare,” John Metz told FoxNews.com. “Everyone’s looking for a way to not have to provide insurance for their employees. It’s essentially a huge tax on all us business people.” To further offset the costs, Metz, who oversees roughly 1,200 employees, said he will also slash most of their hours to fewer than 30 per week. That change will be announced to employees next month, he said. “I want to explain it to everybody, to let them know what’s coming down the pike,” he said. “We like to keep our employees informed.” The changes will force some front-of-the-house employees to look for second jobs, Metz said, but he simply cannot afford the penalties associated with Obamacare. “I have a choice: try to live within the rules, or go out of business.” - John Metz, Florida restaurateur “It’s a great concept,” he said. “We want to have everyone insured. The problem is, who is going to pay for it and how are we going to accomplish this?” Read more: Florida restaurateur to impose surcharge for Obamacare | Fox News | |

Re: Florida restaurateur to impose surcharge for Obamacare
I actually love this idea. The public needs to understand what the cost of these gvmt. programs are and that these costs will not be aborbed by business owners. Historically, the costs are buried in the price of goods. Putting it on the bottom of the bill as a surcharge, similar to sales tax, makes it clear that no matter what Washington says, everyone ends up paying, not just the top 1% or those making over $250,000 per year.
I think all businesses in the US should adopt this practice. |

So the working class gets taxed to help pay for Obamacare then we get a surcharge when we go eat at a resturant to pay for it some more?

The 2nd easiest way to raise taxes on the poor and working class is to tax the wealthy.
The easiest way is a lottery. |

Re: Florida restaurateur to impose surcharge for Obamacare
No problem with it. We seldom eat out, not that we can't afford it, we just enjoy cooking. As for their hours being cut, I'm also fine with it. These are not skilled positions. If anyone who works these types of jobs are not trying to better their position in life by looking for something better or going to school part-time then go get another low paying job and work two of them.
I'm not some cold and heartless person either, I have worked low paying jobs. I got out of the Marines with $700 to my name. Got a part-time job at Lowes and put myself through school. I worked so hard at Lowes that a customer noticed and offered me an even better job so I believe you get out of life what you put into it. I know some people get injured or get very sick, we should take care of these people and try and help them but the rest who are not willing to better themselves can work these crappy jobs the rest of their lives. I don't give two hershey quirts on what they want or think they are entitled to have. |
