The firing pin
For the record I am going to discount some myths, create some new ones
Movies and Video games are the fault: Quite frankly horse sh1t. My fathers generation watched Gun slingers get gunned down in the middle of the street in the 50's, they played Cowboys and Indians... Gangsters like Al Capone were portrayed in movies gunning everyone down. That generation basically had a gun in every household, no one brought them to school... I hunted and have owned guns since I was 8, I NEVER thought of bringing a gun to school. My father would have beat my arse and taken them away, which would have meant no hunting. Parents today are too willing to point the finger anywhere but at them selves and their parenting. To buy into this line is to confess you still believe Ozzy Osbourn's music caused suicides. To the British who do not understand Americans owning guns: You should look at why we became our own nation, and the history you have with us. Protecting our sovereignty, our homes, and our people are things woven into the fabric of Americans.... Because of you. The thirty round magazine capacity needs to be regulated: Common misconception. Whether a person has one 30 round magazine, two twenty round magazines, or three ten round magazines... In the 1 second it takes me to change magazines no one is any safer. IF someone is coming after you, how much hiding or running can you do in 1 or 2 seconds? None. Semi-Automatic Assault Rifles should be banned: Why? 5.56mm (.223) or 7.62 (.308) makes up more than 76% of those weapons. Do you not realize that neither is more powerful than a .50AE pistol? These are the most common hunting calibers, look at where the .223 Remington and .308 Mag fall in. The basics of rifle bullet caliber Attachedis a comparison of a .223 (5.56mm AR-15 round) and a .50AE pistol round. Type III body armor is rifle armor, it can stop 5.56 and 7.62...not .50AE or .44 MAG Its the visual that scares you... Look up .458 WinMag and 5.56 AR... The AR looks more dangerous to you... It has no where near the killing power of the .458 WinMag. Americas Dangers Last I checked our southern border with Mexico is one of the most dangerous open borders on the planet. There are other more dangerous but they are not guarded by military. Drugs, guns, criminals filter into the US from our southern border. Read: Impacts of Illegal Immigration: Crime Summary Lets not look at gun violence but "Total Crimes" by country. Total crimes statistics - countries compared - Nationmaster Ranked by total US #1 11mil UK #2 6.5 mil Ger #3 6.5 mil Now Population US 315 Mil UK 63 Mil Ger 81 Mil Crimes Per 1 Mil UK .103 crimes per 1 mil people GER .080 crimes per 1 mil people US .034 crimes per 1 mil people The above comparison tells me that a Citizen potentially having a gun curbs crime... No? So if you are reading this from across the pond and are alluding to the fact that your gun laws make you feel safer... You are delusional. Evil seeks out the innocent and defenseless. Portray recent history any way you like; however, this is all happening in "gun free" zones. "The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good" -- George Washington "Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." -- Mahatma Gandhi "...quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est." [...a sword never kills anybody; it's a tool in the killer's hand.] -- (Lucius Annaeus) Seneca "the Younger" (ca. 4 BC-65 AD), |

Re: The firing pin
Now... Show me legislation that keeps guns out of the hands of criminals, and the mentally ill with out violating the constitutional rights of the law abiding and I will back it 100%.
That will never come to fruition however... It can only happen by profiling, and singling out those people which is politically incorrect. |

Where are the fathers of the perpetrators of the crimes in Oakland last night? One was a double shooting - the other a fatal stabbing. Now my guess is the people guilty of those two crimes last night were NOT raised in a home where there were two or even one responsible parent. And this is not to say people WITH two or even one responsible parent don't go crazy and do stupid ****. They do. Still, the places where gun violence is most prominent are in the inner city where us normal folk would be aghast at the quality of parenting (or the lack of it). I live close enough that I see it every day. |

Two things I learned growing up with good parents and hunting. 1. There are always repercussions for anything I do. 2. At 8 I knew the damage to flesh that the business end of a gun would do. Ill never forget my first rabbit. People these days shoot paper and think they understand. To this day at 42 years old, even with my guns broken down, I get skiddish when looking down the barrel to check its condition. |

Re: The firing pin
On face value of that article. 499 strangulations and one shooting.
Chicago had a blanket ban on handguns all but 18 days this year... That ban went back 28 years. Someone going to try and tell me in the last 18 days Chicago had a gun related murder spree? California has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. Lets hear it for Oakland, Stockton, ! The 25 Most Dangerous Cities in America - Yahoo! Finance In the same note everyone knows here in Texas we all Wyatt Earp the fk around strapping 6 shooters.. No cities made the top 25 though.. humm. |
