Term Limits?

this is a discussion within the Poli-Sci Community Forum; Most know where I stand on term limits. Frankly I think they aren't restrictive enough. I know of and respect the argument against mine where people say we have it just about right. But this guy? This Democrat from NY? ...

Term Limits?

But this guy? This Democrat from NY? This fool wants to do away with the 22nd amendment completely - I guess so El Presidente (Barry Obama) can just stay in the white house as long as he wants?

I don't know.

Dudes name is Jose Serrano. How do idiots like this even get elected? Of course the bill has a snowball's chance in hell, which makes considering it a great big waste of time. Is he so worthless as a representative that he figured he needed to propose SOMEthing so he could go back to the uber-liberals that elected him able to say he tried?

What the hell is our Country coming to guys & gals?

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President. (H.J.Res. 15) - GovTrack.us

Trust in Allah, but tie up your camel...

Two terms of Obama is two terms too many. The Constitution has already been **** on enough by this administration. They won't be happy until it is completely done away with...not like they act like it even exists anyway.

And it is sad his unconstitutional executive directives has not been challenged with our checks and balances system.

Re: Term Limits?

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."
There's some debate as to who originally said it, but the point remains.

Every president signs executive orders at the beginning of their term. They also undo the executive orders of the previous administration. I think Bush/Cheney was more guilty than Obama. But Obama and Bush aren't the only ones to sign executive orders - Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon.... all of them do - it sets the pace of their presidency.

Bush/Cheney signed executive order in November of 2001 that pretty much gutted the Presidential Records Act originally enacted in 1978 to prevent Johnson/Nixon-esque secrecy in the White House. It protects the president for 12 years from embarrassment.

It's unconstitutional and illegal, but it remains in affect today as Obama did not undo this one.

Just wanted to point out that Obama isn't the only President with a finesse for the use of the executive order pen... THEY ALL DO IT!

I completely agree that they've all done it. It's just that the last two president's we've had have stepped it up several notches on completely obliterating the Constitution.

Re: Term Limits?

While I'm certainly in favor of term limits, there are numerous other problems I'd like dealt with before that happens.

Just off the top of my head, a flat tax, a balanced budget amendment, gun affirmation, border control, voter iD, entitlement reform, repealing Obamacare etc...

Implementing shorter term limits would be an excellent place to start on any of those items IMO.
