Former New Orleans Saints Scott Fujita, Steve Gleason, Scott Shanle pledge support of same-sex marriage

Former New Orleans Saints Scott Fujita, Steve Gleason and Scott Shanle are among several current and former professional athletes, coaches and executives who have pledged their support of a legal brief, supporting same-sex marriage.

Last month Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo filed an amicus brief to the high court, arguing that California's ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional.

Former Saints Kawika Mitchell and David Kopay and former LSU women's basketball player and coach Pokey Chatman also joined the cause.

"Football is a macho sport, but we've found many players to be accepting," Fujita said. "We hope to create an environment where a player who is gay will be treated like any other teammate."

On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on the question of whether the ban on same-sex marriage violates the U.S. Constitution.

You can tell the difference between Romney supporters and Obama supporters by which side of the check they sign. Romney supporters sign the front of their checks............

I fully back them on this.
The same as I do over here(UK).
I do not think that any church/priest should have to hold the ceremony though.I see no harm in letting people live how they want and allowing the to marry in a civil ceremony

Players should stick to universal stuff, like bullying, drunk driving, stay in school type issues. The anti-bullying thing from Drew? That was HUGE in my book. Because we all know bullying is real, it happens, it's wrong and we all need to intervene and teach kids the right way because it's unacceptable behavior. But this? Bullying, drunk driving, stay in school, date rape -- those types of issues have CONSEQUENCES. Whatever your opinion of gay marriage is, nobody dies or commits suicide or ends up more likely to go to jail just because of gay marriage.

Agreed, but have we really run so far out of sports news that this has to show up? Hell, shut up and play ball, or at least sign somebody! Stale is what stale does....

So because of them being football players you don't want them to use the right to free speech?

I agree with you. A civil cermony should be aviable, and if certain churces or religious groups want to hold the more traditional weddings that should be up to them to decide.

I am saying that just because they are football players doesn't mean they need to inject their opinion into the media.

I do not exercise my "rights" every chance I get. If I actually said what I wanted to all the time I would have been banned from here and the McDolalds drive through long ago.
