Same ol' Brooks... ?

18 for 24. (That is 75%)

22 yard run to convert a 3rd down.

192 yards - including a final drive to go ahead...

1 fumble.

Some smiling.

You decide.

SaintStoneyMount 09-11-2005 03:32 PM

Yeah!!!

97.9 passing rating for Brooks on that game. Only sore spot was that fumble when the ball slips out his hand. Minus the fumble, I'll take that all season.

JKool 09-11-2005 03:33 PM

RE: Yeah!!!

Here, here, Stoney!

We'll see what other think.

Of course, one game does not a season make, but, hey, not too shabby so far?

JKool 09-11-2005 03:34 PM

RE: Yeah!!!

PS - Do you think he beat them with his eyes too? :jkool:

dberce1 09-11-2005 03:34 PM

I knew the second he fumbled, the BS would start on this board. He managed the game well, minus the fumble. But of course, someone has to bring this up, and we'll go off on Aaron for a month now. Thanks JK.

CheramieIII 09-11-2005 03:36 PM

If he plays like this all year we will definitely be in the bowl. It's our year boys let enjoy every win to the fullest.

Yep .......

JKool 09-11-2005 03:37 PM

No worries d.

As long as I'm at it, you know who else fumbled and lost the ball? I'll give you a hint; his initials are J.D.

great game by arron. one fumble. was at a bad spot. could have been bad but hey jake had two int's. i will take the one mistake. besides that he was flawless. great game by arron. great win. i will take it any way we can get it. in the end noone talks about that fumble. only how many we win or loose.

Jack Danials? Yeah, but he was drunk!

JKool 09-11-2005 03:59 PM

Ah, Uncle Jack. He's always good for a laugh (or a fumble apparently) at family functions.

Euphoria 09-11-2005 04:14 PM

its not only the stats to look at... did you seem him faking play action like no bodies buisness. Even the cameraman was getting lost. Great job by brooks he gets a passing grade on this one.

spkb25 09-11-2005 04:19 PM

no doubt euphoria. man that initial drive has to up there with some good ones. nearly 10 minute drive for a td. you can't beat that

TheDeuce 09-11-2005 04:39 PM

Sure Brooks had that one fumble, but if you look at what else he did, you have to be excited. First you must consider who he was playing against; Carolina's defense is arguably one of the best in the business. Second, I watched all game while Aaron Brooks felt the pressure coming from up the middle and off the corners, and I watched AB step left, step right or step up (NO BACKING UP), and avoid the rush. He scrambled for 32 yards (including a 22 yard run to help us get into range for the GW field goal). He wasn't sacked once this game, and that's against guys like Julius Peppers, Mike Rucker, Brenston Buckner, and Kris Jenkins for part of the game (arguably the best front four in the game). I was also impressed with his accuracy. He went 18-24, with no interceptions, and on all of his passes he stepped up into the pocket and threw lasers all over the field. I was very impressed with his play, and the play of the rest of the team. GEAUX SAINTS!

Agreed. Here is my one problem with the fumble though, noone touched him, and it was yet again in the red zone, meaning we lose the chance at point. Then, after we got the INT on Carolina's next drive, and we have the ball again in the red zone, on 3rd and 2 instead of throwing to get the first we run a sweep with Deuce that gets stopped for a loss. Why? Cause of the prev fumble. I would have given Brooks a perfect game if not for that play, cause it seemed like it effected two drives. But damn, this team, and especially Brooks, played a good game today. Two spots of concern: Rushing offense, and pass rush on defense. Neither was as consistent as I would have liked. But we won. Hallelujah. Thanks Saints, and thanks LSU for a great weekend when we needed it the most.

saintswhodi 09-11-2005 04:55 PM

Oh, and he set Conwell up pretty good to get knocked out the game. lol Conwell was playing pretty damn well wans't he?

SaintStoneyMount 09-11-2005 04:56 PM

65.5.....Jake's QB rating for this game.

spkb25 09-11-2005 05:00 PM

ughhhh

BJSim 09-11-2005 05:28 PM

Brooks looked good. I'd like to see more time for him, but I guess with a couple new starters on the OL it'll just take a little time to gel. In fact my biggest complaint for the offense WAS the Offensive Line, 2.4 yards a carry won't allow Brooks to use the play action since teams won't be afraid of the run. Let's hope TheDeuce's estimate of the Carolina D-Line is accurate, since that means it get easier next week and beyond.

D_it_up 09-11-2005 06:11 PM

If today's game is any indication of how Brooks is going to perform this season, then I'd say here come the playoffs. I'm hoping he doesn't regress, but I loved the way he performed today. He actually looked like a field general out there. AB kept his composure, ran when he had to run, threw pin-point passes, and just looked all out great. It seems like he's finally matured into an NFL quarterback. I think the play I loved the most was right before one of Deuce's touchdown when in the red zone, he called a time out. It was almost as if he knew he may screw up and made sure he got things right. Good game, AB. Just keep it up for 15 more games and take them to the playoffs.

Euphoria 09-11-2005 07:01 PM

wait... I know we aren't blaming Brooks for a coaches Play calling... thats it I heard it all. The sweep was a good call there D just lit up our blockers.

``In the back of our minds, we know we have to give them one tiny bit of hope,'' said New Orleans quarterback Aaron Brooks. ``We have complete faith in what we are doing because every time we go out there, it is our job to give them hope that every day will be a better day.''
I think this was a classy thing to say. I'm impressed that Brooks would say it. Kool might have a point, maybe Brooks decided to be more of a team guy this off-season? I hope so.

He had a very good completion percentage and very good yards per attempt. It was a good performance. Ability has never been a problem with the guy and he showed it today. I'm optimistic that we'll see consistency from him this season.

On another note, Are we going to drop the "dead leg" comments about Carney now? Seems like John came through in a big way today.

BoudinSandwich 09-11-2005 08:42 PM

From one of his biggest bashers, you'll hear it... A- . Not perfect. The dumb fumble hurt, but he did help to win the game in the last few moments. Its excusable. Great game for everyone.

This is the first game where I have not been extremely p*ssed off at either a player or coach. This was good, inspired football and it almost made me cry. I am PROUD to be a fan of the New Orleans SAINTS!

LordOfEntropy 09-11-2005 08:51 PM

Ditto.

CHACHING 09-11-2005 09:38 PM

Deuce to quote the great George Putnam....
"I agree with you 1000%"
We managed the clock well..
Scored in the first drive...
Scored in the first quarter...
DETROIT HERE WE COME!!!!(very small ching)

jnormand 09-11-2005 09:53 PM

Gotta agree guys. AB did really well. As the game grew, I had more and more faith in the guy. When he started that last drive, I knew that he was going to get it done. You could see it. He was going to get us in scoring position. Great game by this team. AB was awesome.

Any word on Conwell? I know he got injured, but is it serious? He looked really good.

CHACHING 09-11-2005 09:58 PM

His jaw was twisted...concusion......
He's alright.........
Man he looked good today...
Nice to have someone that they don't gamplan against..
(ching)

Euphoria 09-11-2005 10:10 PM

Let me regress for a minute... Aside from the fumble being the really only mistake Brooks made, I think the play-action and selling the run when passing, was outstanding. Getting the LB's mixed up and freezing them enabled Conwell to get open more and often.

jnormand 09-12-2005 12:33 AM

Yeah, also look at the fact that AB checked down. He usually has his eye on the downfield. He checked down and completed the passes to Conwell. This is good.

Do we know if Conwell will be coming in next week against the Giants?

yasoon 09-12-2005 01:40 AM

The fumble concerns you because of the timing. It really makes no sense and I don't know how you prevent it from happening.

Having said that...AB reallylooked good today. He moved UP in the pocket and showed off what has to be one of the best arms in the league. There is only one word for those throws.....LASER. The late throw to Horn was ridiculous. No dropped passes. The only turnover was by our defense.

Take a look at the highlights when Brooks hits the huddle on the last drive. You can ding hiim for the smiling, but I guarantee when he hits the huddle loose like that with 1 minute to play, it helps the team.

I've never been an AB lover or hater. Whoever's side you are on, you walk away with this....2 straight games AB has outplayed Jake. Period. If nothing else, it should make losing Jake sting a little less.

I was so pumped up after the game today, I wanted to tackle someone. I've never been prouder to be a fan of a team. The team that never gets any love is getting showered with praise and respect. (A gameball from Berman?) We have to stay focused and win the games we're supposed to win. Buddy D and Katrina may just combine to make this a season for the ages :)

bayouking318 09-12-2005 02:25 AM

It's kind of sad that people expect a perfect game from Brooks. He played damn good out there. I guess I am the only one believe that was a foward (incomplete) pass.

I hope they don't start Hodge next week. The guy is horrible on run plays & semi-average on pass plays. The line-up should be Bockwalt olb, Watson olb, & McKinnon mlb.

spkb25 09-12-2005 03:45 AM

it didn't matter in the end what deuce's yards per carry were. it was setting up the pass with play action because they didn't know when the run was coming. in the past if you shut down deuce you shgut down the saints. not today which was nice. i like that we didn't abandon the run.i like this kind of football and i hope we play it all year long

CHACHING 09-12-2005 07:18 AM

I agree Deuce.....I cursed him for the fumble but then he shook it off and drove down the field even after the loss of Conwell!!!!!!........
nice.

nice call yasoon, did anyone see that throw in slow motion replay!? It was still FAST, what a bullet. Yeah, play where the ball came out the back of his hand hurt; however, Brooks was clearly a leader out on that field.

biloxi-indian 09-12-2005 07:40 AM

I realize this is an AB thread, but he did all those great things behind a great offensive line. One of them, Jamal Brown was outstanding. Yes, he did have the "yips" once or twice, but then again Peppers did not get a SACK.

Not bad for a rookie, and his first game of the season.

saintswhodi 09-12-2005 08:47 AM

Everyone knows I have no love for Brooks, so for me to say he played an almost perfect game is big. Strangely, I gave him the same praise after the Carolina game to end the season last year. Maybe he truly is coming around. But if he plays like he did against Carolina all season, we will have a very strong year. If he exes the red zone turnovers altogether, we may be dancing in Detroit. The defense looked inspired out there. And the only reason Smith beat McKenzie is cause McKenzie went all out for the strip of the ball instead of making the tackle. You could see him trying to rip it out. HE just missed, and Bellamy, as we all know, was too slow to catch Smith. But outside of that 80 yard run, and a couple of whiffs by Colby, the D was pretty stout against the run. This whole team seemed inspired, top to bottom. That is a feeling I hope they carry all year. If we keep our D and add a stud LB next year, or a stud DT, or both we could be scary good on D again. And withthe offense coming around, yikes. If it doesn't happen this year for us, it very well may next year.

Euphoria 09-12-2005 09:44 AM

I thought I wouldn't see this but Brooks getting love in a thread???

Getting love? Not quite. I haven't forgotten his name is Aaron Brooks. But I just feel if he keeps playing now like he should have been the last 4 years, we have a real shot at something special, like we could have had the last 4 years, had he been playing like he has the last two games against Carolina. If he plays the rest of the league like that this year, yikes. We could be scary good.

LordOfEntropy 09-12-2005 10:22 AM

Brooks played with emotion, it's nice to see some of his talent coming out. The simplied offense may well be the key to this guy realizing his potential.

There is still room for improvement. Our red zone offense is still shaky. Regardless, I was very impressed with Brooks yesterday.
