Great -- we get the Packers

in their stadium -- who have not won a game -- and Brett Favre finally got his passing act and offense together. A game I had a pegged as an easy victory now becomes tough.

Not too worried- this team still has problems. If it comes down to a shoot-out between the two offenses, I feel comfortable with that. But we have some playmakers on defense. Am I the only one that's not worried at all about this game?

I am optimistic... but don't forget last season when we handed out wins to 0-3 Arizona then 0-4 Tampa Bay...

We can really start talking history when we throw in the fact that we were Tampa's 1st ever win, the first team the new returning Browns beat was the Saints --- I can go on and on. While confidence is good -- the egos we have on our team just think if we show up the other team shakes intheir boots. Bottom line is this is a team we should beat easily but at the same time is a dangerous team looking for their 1st win. One can only hope the Saints will not be charitable.

yasoon 10-04-2005 10:39 AM

An away game against a winless team that is playing really bad.

I say we're screwed. Seriously.

They're beat up, but that never seems to matter.

We really need this win, cuz the odds of us beating Atl are slim. Those bastards are playing really good defense.....

If we win the next 2 games, I say we go to the playoffs. But...I'm just hoping for 3-3. There are some very winnable games on this schedule...and we all know what that means with the Saints. But the Bear, Lions, Jets, Dolphins..we SHOULD be able to go 3-1 against that little group. I feel good about us beating Tampa at least once. There are nine wins to be had....will we grab em? Probably not. I think we're steamrolling to another 8-8 finish.

I'm with you B&B. If Carolina could have bought a first down in the 4th quarter, no way the Packers would have made their last 2-3 scores.

Green Bay can't run the ball, their receivers are dropping like flies and they are still awful on defense.
Plus--Stick a fork in Favre.

If we lose this game, it's because we gave it away.

spkb25 10-04-2005 12:28 PM

this game is scary to me. i would have hoped green bay one last night. they are fighting for their lives this week. they just put up 29 on the panthers d. scares the heck out of me. if you are winless all you have to do is play the saints. minny looked horrible again this week so why is it when we played them they were all stars. we lose this and it is just sad. i will tell you this beat them up early and they probably fold, get down early and their confidence is right there. never like playing teams like this.

iceshack149 10-04-2005 06:09 PM

Do not stick a fork in Favre. If he was on any other team in the NFL he would not be on an 0-4 team. This defense is crap, easily worse than the Saints. The receivers are junk. Driver has caused at least two interceptions this year already. No tightend, no running game and the o-line is plain awful. Favre's the only good player on this team and everyone is blaming him for the team's failures.

I do think that the Saints will lose this game, however. Was it '99 when the Saints were 7-2 that those two losses were to bad teams? The Lions and Bengals? Just like last week. The Vikings have been awful this year but treated the Saints poorly. The Packers have been playing bad so I'm sure that the Saints will play down to that level and give this game away.

jnormand 10-04-2005 06:39 PM

The funny part is this: If we lose than the media will say that we suck. If we win, the media will say that we just beat a really bad GB team. No props for winning this week Gents. And for the record....I'm petrified of this game. GB better not find it's self against us.

CHACHING 10-04-2005 06:46 PM

After reading all the posts on this thread I have to go with B on B..
I don't care what GB's record is...they outright suck!
Brooks was drafted by them...
McKenzie was there last year...
and they have fat ass Grady Jackson(which is sure to light a fire under Sully's ass)
DEUCE GETS REAL LOOSE!!!!
Saints 27
Packers 21

subguy 10-04-2005 07:23 PM

First off hello...i have wandered out of my dormant state.......I think N.O. will have a real tough time winning this game. I think the odds are slim of G.B. losing another game in a row. Favre has not been able to find magic, but fear this will be the week. N.O. has not played well enough to win this away game.

AllSaints 10-05-2005 06:32 AM

Mike Mckienze 2 Interceptions this game .... Payback ******* :!:

SapperSaint 10-05-2005 07:41 AM

I have to say if you underestimate Farve, you will get beat. I do (as much as I regret to say it) think we can beat GB. Individuals on the defense MUST step up and keep presure on Bret. The O-Line has got to give Deuce some openings to run along with some run protection from the WR's and TE's. Three man WR's on every offensive play and throw to all three. Special teams will surprise us this week.

My prediction:
Saints=32
Packers=24 (Late comeback)

GO SAINTS!!!!YOU F%#KERS!!!

spkb25 10-05-2005 08:45 AM

34-13 pack

WhoDi, that is an excellent point. I guess it depends on how charitable we are on Sunday?

I'm not totally anti-Favre here, but there's no way he can succeed with what they have to work with. When the Packers decided to let their 2 all pro guards leave in free agency, it sure looked like they had given up on running the football. Couple that with a defense that was broken last year and it isn't a recipe for success. The smart move for the Packers would have been to deal Favre for a fistful of picks to a team like Miami and let Rodgers play. As it stands right now, the Packers could probably still deal him to the Jets, Ravens, Raiders or Chiefs who need to win right now and leverage him into several picks that would let the packers rebuild.

It seems like Favre won't be able to be productive as long as this rebuild is going to take. The Favre era may well be over.

yasoon 10-05-2005 10:41 AM

This game will come down more to our offense's consistent ability to score than it will what Favre does. Even in his good games, he'll put a couple of balls up for grabs. We're gonna have to come down with a couple of them.

Their D is banged up and not that good even whn healthy. The offense just needs to play clean and get the ball in the endzone. 19 points aint gonna do it this week. We'll need to throw about 28 on the board to win.

As I have already said, the Saints against a team on a bad slide? We lose this game 9 outta 10 times.

I really don't see how any of you can say "these guys suck, therefore we win".
I appreciate the optimism, but how many times has that exact logic failed in the Haslett era?

We have to fear the screen pass in this game. Carolina bottled it up pretty good.

Logically, yes, we win this game. But, the Saints aren't logical. GB has O line problems, injuries at reciever, bad/injured defense. We should be able to impose our will on them, but sh1t.......we won't.

Packers 31, Saints 24 ( I really hoope I'm wrong.)

iceshack149 10-05-2005 12:40 PM

"The Favre era may well be over." Quote from BMG

That I agree with. The Packers picking a quarterback in the first round with so many glaring needs says it all. It says good-bye Favre and the new GM is an idiot.
Beef up the o-line, get a linebacker, get a player for the secondary.
Favre is aging, yes. He seems to look older each week. But That's a position that they'll need later, not now.

BreesFN9 10-05-2005 12:54 PM

I Agree that a team that is down is the most dangerous. The Packers know that if they can win ( At Home ) they R still ( Sad To SAY ) in contention for their Division! Yes Division, not Wildcard. I think they will step up and play us tough, but we will prevail.

People are worried about Favre as We should be, He's a competitor even now at 0-4. How Do U stop Favre??? You keep him off the field! We Run the Ball 30-40 times and eat up the clock all game long. We were great at the 1 and 2 yd runs last week that slowly ate the time away. No problem do that 3 times, eat up the clock and then we know the GB Secondary is good for an easy 8-80yds at any minute. So we get to third and 7, or third and 4, Big Deal. I think our 3rd down convertions will be good this week and we should put up 30 pts. I say 31-17 Saints. We need to score first in this one and kick them while they are down, not the other way around allowing them to get confidence.

Savant 10-05-2005 02:43 PM

Frankly I'm worried about every game. Who saw the 2nd meltdown at Giants Stadium coming. I knew Eli was gonna be something special one day, but I didn't think he'd "bloom" this soon. Let's all be honest. Most of the time we beat ourselves. Plain and simple. Why did we win last week. Cause we only had a handfull of penalties and no turnovers. That's always a good recipe for winning.

CASaintsFan 10-06-2005 03:33 AM

The bottom line is that this is the kind of game this team needs to win if it's serious about being a playoff team. GB is down, the Saints have to keep them down. In the end, it comes down to consistency. Can this team show up and give a consistently solid effort two weeks in a row?

...dude, this is the NFC, every team is a playoff team... like I said on another thread, this year there is a very good chance that someone is going to win a division with a sub .500 record...

..just watch the games and enjoy them...

This man speaks the truth....

Anybody remember our "playoff game that woulda been" against the Packers last year? Didn't Haslett say the Saints would have kicked the Packers' asses, or something along those lines.......saying "we would have gone jumbo on them the whole time". Let's hope he can shove Deuce and Antowain down their throats this Sunday.

Amen brother. Amen.

Every win is tough in this league, but you gotta beat the beat up teams, cuz there's always a good one waiting for you the next week.

In this case, it's our nemesis, the falcons.

Haz is already paying lip service to how tough this game will be....so he's gonna coach em up :?

TallySaint 10-06-2005 11:37 AM

No turnovers vs. Packers would really be nice.

iceshack149 10-06-2005 11:06 PM

By the way..

Flanagan to miss Saints game
The Green Bay Packers definitely won’t have starting center Mike Flanagan for Sunday’s game against New Orleans and might have to start the same makeshift offensive line that finished last week’s game at Carolina. Oct. 06, 2005 (more)
http://www.packersnews.com/archives/...22890587.shtml

So the Packer's interior portion of the line is now inferior. Losing their starting guards and now their center.

Also, yet another receiver is out for the season; Terrence Murphy.

The Saints really should win this game. If they don't this will indeed be a long year.

Saintsfan4ever 10-07-2005 01:17 AM

#1 - You can`t base the outcome of the season on a game this early in the season.
#2 - Somewhere down the stretch we have to win 7 more games to have a chance at the play-offs. This should be the third W but if not don`t panic.
#3 - Brett Favre too old??? Don`t you be fooled. Besides, We made old man Emmit Smith look like a pro-bowler.

Saints have a track record of winning the games were not suppose to and stinking the place up on the games we should win. Thats not new, everybody knows that, thats why I`m excited about the cluster of games coming up that we shouldn`t win.

I`m happy about the win last sunday, but lets be honest, 4 feild goals aint gonna get it down the road. 9-7 is optimistic in my opinion.
