McAllister Likely Out For Season

McAllister likely out for season

The New Orleans Saints nightmarish season has turned even worse.

FOXSports.com has learned that the initial test on Pro Bowl RB Deuce McAllister has shown a torn ACL, meaning McAlister will miss the rest of this season.
McAllister limped off the field with approximately seven minutes remaining in the third quarter of Sunday's horrific 52-3 loss to Green Bay after twisting his right knee at the end of a screen pass. Initial x-rays were negative but the team didn't make a final prognosis until further examination today.

The Saints will get McAllister a second opinion before deciding on definitive season-ending surgery but all indications are that the injury will need to be repaired surgically.

The Saints have endured one of the most painful seasons in league history. Their organization has been reduced to a constant traveling team without a true home stadium due to Hurricane Katrina. Their performance has been greatly affected by the tragedy, and the loss of their best player certainly cannot help measures.

Well I don't think Duece was going to be much of a factor this year anyway. Hasn't done much in the past 5 games. Blame it on the line ,play calling, or him ,or whatever. If he is lost for the season I predict he will never be back to the form that we hoped he would be in this year. Smith will be an able backup, and stecker a backup to him.

This entire franchise is going down the sh**ter

saintswhodi 10-10-2005 12:24 PM

And he just got a new deal. It took Edge James two years to come back fully from a knee injury. I haven't stopped cussing since I read this. DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yasoon 10-10-2005 12:25 PM

Can someone tell me what he was doing in the game? Seriously. Go sit down...come back another day. Deuce should not have even had his shoulder pads on, much been on the field to get hurt.

TheGambler 10-10-2005 12:36 PM

Looks like Antowain is our guy...

How's that?

SaintStoneyMount 10-10-2005 01:35 PM

I woke up for what? This just seals it. OMG. Now I got to go to Home Depot and get some stinkin plaster for the wall I just broke my hand on. And on the way I'm going to pick up my old pal Jack Daniels...I guess I picked the wrong season to stop drinkin.

papz 10-10-2005 01:42 PM

I think your old friend Jack should meet my friend 151... I think they would get along very well.

SaintStoneyMount 10-10-2005 01:44 PM

Why not misery loves company...Bring em all

stockman311 10-10-2005 01:49 PM

Time to tank it and start over with Leinart. See you next year Duece.

BlackandBlue 10-10-2005 02:09 PM

I'll bring the Maker's.

TheGambler 10-10-2005 02:10 PM

Without Deuce yesterday........maybe the score could have been 52-0 instead of 52-3...

I hate to see us lose him too, but let's not all start jumping off bridges. We lost Rickey Williams midway through 2000, right?

TallySaint 10-10-2005 02:12 PM

ESPN2 (Monday Quarterback) confirms the Fox.com report. Ditka and company say Deuce is done for the season.

Man, oh man.

:?

TheGambler 10-10-2005 02:18 PM

Does anybody have Ki-Jana Carter on speed dial?

If Deuce is gone for the year, he'll go on IR...we might as well sign a backup.

stockman311 10-10-2005 02:21 PM

Why not just call Eddie George?

:08:

yasoon 10-10-2005 02:25 PM

Can anyone give me a single logical reason for having your 50 million dollar guy in a game that you are losing so badly?

This is a fireable offense in itself.

You can say what you want... I know deuce has not run like we'd like. But, Deuce is a class act and when we win, it is usually because we get him going.

This is unbelieveable.

Saints lose running back McAllister for year
By Len Pasquarelli
ESPN.com

Already beset by a natural disaster, the reeling New Orleans Saints have now suffered a physical one as well, with a Monday morning MRI exam revealing that star running back Deuce McAllister has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, an injury that will sideline the five-year veteran for the rest of the season.

A team spokesman confirmed the injury and coach Jim Haslett will announce it at his Monday afternoon news conference.

McAllister, the workhorse of the Saints offense and once again cast as the centerpiece of what Haslett had hoped would be the return to a power running game in 2005, will seek a second opinion. But the matter appears academic and the Saints will finish what already has been a dismal season without the veteran who is arguably their best offensive player.

The injury occurred in the third quarter of Sunday's loss at Green Bay when McAllister caught a screen pass and his right foot seemed to catch in the turf at Lambeau Field. An on-field examination by team physicians originally indicated that McAllister suffered an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament. Further scrutiny of the knee following the 52-3 defeat raised alarms the damage was actually to the anterior cruciate ligament, and that it was more severe.

After the game, McAllister insisted he was "all right" and suggested that he would be able to play in next Sunday's game against Atlanta at the Alamodome. McAllister had carried 11 times for 31 yards at the time of the injury.

The Monday MRI exam confirmed the team's worst fears. It is not yet known when the second opinion will take place or when McAllister will undergo surgery. Typically in such cases, teams will wait until the swelling in the joint subsides before they will have a player undergo surgery.

A first-round pick in the 2001 draft, and the 23rd overall selection that year, McAllister has missed only three games in his career. The former University of Mississippi star, who is widely regarded as one of the NFL's premier tailbacks, has rushed for 4,529 yards and 34 touchdowns on 1,054 carries. That includes 93 carries for 335 yards in 2005.

McAllister, 26, entered this season with three straight 1,000-yard campaigns, including a career-best 1,641 yards in 2003. He also has 182 catches for 1,379 yards and four scores.

Haslett vowed this spring, after a 2004 season in which the New Orleans offense seemed to deviate from his blueprint for it, to return to a more physical attack, with McAllister as the primary catalyst. With their top back gone now, the Saints likely will split time at the tailback spot between Antowain Smith and Aaron Stecker. The Saints, already displaced by Hurricane Katrina, and now temporarily based in San Antonio, are 2-3.

At the outset of training camp, the club signed McAllister to a pricey seven-year contract extension. The extension, which created an eight-year contract in total, is worth $50.1 million and includes $12.5 million in signing and roster bonuses.

Just a snippet from a Times-Picayune article...

"....Problem is, at the end of the day, we still must revert to thinking about the season at hand, one that looked messy after Sunday and appears to be a complete wreck now. Team appeared listless and lifeless against a winless team with the best player on the roster in uniform. So it certainly is capable of deflating, drifting away and landing with a thud against some of the better remaining teams, including against Atlanta on Sunday."

"The one player the Saints could least afford to lose, they lost. Everything else might not be far behind."

I was planin on changin my name to deuce reeks, if hed lose some weight off that fat arse, we wouldnt have this prob...he is remnding me of mario bates with the way he was running this year...falling down b4 he was even hit  it sux but life goes on

BlackandBlue 10-10-2005 06:33 PM

Bates never held the all time rushing record for the Saints, much less, at the age of 26.

TheDeuce 10-10-2005 06:56 PM

I don't want to jinx anything, but I'm pretty sure tearing an ACL can be a career altering injury. Does anybody know how severe the tear was? And is this going to be a problem in years to come?

papz 10-10-2005 07:27 PM

It should be a big problem. Deuce is Deuce. He'll rehab and come back stronger than ever. One thing is guy has is pride. Many good football players have come back from this injury and retained their effectiveness. Deuce should be no exception. Hopefully he'll get surgery right away and start preparing himself for next season.

BlackandBlue 10-10-2005 07:29 PM

Ask Frank Gore what it can do for you. Willis McGahee was an anomaly.

saintswhodi 10-10-2005 07:32 PM

Edge James came all the way back from a torn ACL, it just took two full years.

SAINTSS74 10-10-2005 07:52 PM

RUNNING BACKS NEVER RECOVER FROM THIS THEY MIGHT AS WELL TRADE HIM NOW

AllSaints 10-10-2005 08:29 PM

Im wondering do we tack a RB in the 1st maybe 2nd round.... Deuce just hasnt been the Deuce like he was.

spkb25 10-11-2005 07:04 PM

yes we need to add a rb in the draft. very much so. never mind the injury the guy hasn't looked good since 2003

True. And I think that Frank Gore will eventually start in this league, it's just going to take time. Deuce seems to heal fast, though, so it might not be as bad.
