RE: RB, QB, LB What do we do in the first round of the Draft

We need a LB... still.

For me it depends greatly on what is available when we pick, and I haven't really started thinking about next offseason yet. However, I don't think there is any reason to take a QB. This year we drafted our future prospect, A-Mac. We should merely bank on him now - first year QBs are notoriously mediocre.

I suppose, depending on Duece's recovery, an RB isn't out for me. RBs taken in the first round are usually impact players in the year they are drafted (unlike QBs); this makes such a selection make more sense as A-Mac develops.

a long ways away yet. who knows who will or won't be around then. hey, only one week before the trade deadline... i wish they would unload players for draft picks or youngsters like in baseball. brooks and gandy for anything to get rid of their overpaid contracts. sorry joe, we love ya but you will be too old for the rebuild regime. hope you win a superbowl somewhere. how bout that 3rd we coulda had for howard now? as terrible as it is looking, the defense has some future potential. grant and smith outside will make fine cornerstones to build on. watson might be able to handle playing on the outside. bullocks is good future. dwight smith and mckenzie will be good tutors for the remodeling. offese looks to have more turnover needs now- keep brown, bentley, henderson, karney, and donte if he won't cost too much to contract. we're kinda stuck with deuce now. too much invested to move unless he is absolutely gone. all others on offense sayonara. last place teams often have all pro punters, hooray berger! go retire carney.

i'd love to see a regime come in and at least turn it into a solid defense/strong fundamentals operation. the dolphins come to mind. LOL... remember last winter, benson said he didn't even know saban was being courted.

speaking of the senile old fart, i am ready to taste the poison of rita at the helm rather than the same used car bitter flavored one.

look at this... some mock drafts already have us picking leinart #1-

maybe ahmad brooks (yes, another brooks from the state of virginia LOL) if lower. he would have been cool teamed with the animal derrick johnson.

If we're #1, Matt Leinart. If not, D'Brickshaw Ferguson or AJ Hawk.

First of all, I think that if Matt Leinart is available when we draft, no matter where we are, we should take him. There's no way you can pass up on a QB that is as highly touted as Leinart; somebody who you can build a franchise around. If he is gone, I definitely think we need to take a LB. There are several studs this year (AJ Hawk comes to mind first), but I also think that we might be able to get some very good LBs in later rounds if somebody like a Reggie Bush was still available.

Speaking of the RB situation, I think you have to look at how serious this injury is to Deuce. If it is a really bad tear, then I think we need to consider using one of our top picks to get a RB. But if it isn't, then we all know that this team has enough problems that we can use that draft pick elsewhere.

Overall, I think you have to take Leinart if he is available. The QB touches the ball every play on offense, and this guy is a smart quarterback with a great arm and good athletic ability; that's something we haven't had in New Orleans in a long time. He also seems to be a gamer; just look at what he did to OU in the Fiesta Bowl last year.

If Leinart isn't there, then we should go defense. We could use a LB, DT, CB (in that order IMHO). Also, we will have to consider where some of the other QBs in this draft are going to go. For instance, Vince Young? Is Marcus Vick coming out? (He seems to be a better passer than his brother). Omar Jacobs?

Anyways, the draft is a long ways away, but I'm hoping for a SMART draft and an aggressive offseason to try and rebuild this team. I'm just sad because of this team right now tho and especially about Deuce

Gotta agree here. We are desperate at LB and we need Wayne Gandy to wear some other colors next year.

.... and there's always that possibility that Leinhart wouldn't want to play for the Saints.

I don't buy that Tally. Leinart doesn't have a hall of fame father,or a headed to hall of fame brother who makes the highest salary ever for a QB. Whoever picks him, he will play.
