Look at the season so far.

In Carolina, Brooks makes several solid throws.....plays fairly flawless except for one fumble................and in return, the Defense makes plays, special teams does well, basically everyone raises their play. Penalties are kept to a minimum.

In NY (oh, I mean "at home" against NY), Brooks's overall play is decent, but 2 or 3 of his critical turnovers play a factor. As a result, the Defense falls apart, penalties hit again, Carney misses a chip shot, and everyone with the exception of Joe Horn and Donte' Stallworth plays fairly mediocre.

Home for Buffalo: Brooks commits no turnovers, again plays flawlessly, rushes for some key first downs and a TD................and in return, the D plays great, and we only commit 4 penalties.

In GB, the Saints D forces Green Bay to go 3-and-out on their opening drive.........the Saints offense drives down the field and kicks a FG, Brooks seems to be playing ok..............but after the score became 7-3, Brooks throws an awful interception to Al Harris, and from there....BAM! The wheels fall off, the Defense plays like a Junior High team.......Brooks continues struggling.......and evnetually gets pulled......final score, 52-3.

This team has GOT to learn to overcome mistakes. If Brooks throws a bad pass, then the D needs to get the opposing team off the field, or create a turnover. On the flip side of that, if the D is struggling, then Brooks and the rest of the offense should put points on the board to compensate. I'm getting sick of seeing the wheels fall off for this team after 1 or 2 bad plays........this has been a problem for a few years.

I will take you one better .

As Brooks plays the first half , so the game goes .

If Brooks struggles early then that takes Duece out of the game except in the passing game . No real Duece threat and the playaction is useless .

The new simplified offense for the defense reading challenged , was based upon the running game threat .

They have rules that prevent players from running off the bench and tackling players who are headed for the endzone.

The OL can't block, they get penalized every other snap. The defense couldn't stop a group of senior citizens from finishing a wheel-chair race, the WR'S when they do decide to catch a ball are ok at times. Then we have the drunk kicker that can't hit the side of a fat pig with a crane. Take all this and the Coach deals with this and covers this not the QB.

Brooks's completion percentage was nothing to write home about in this game. He made some really nice throws to Hakim, and scrambled effectively once or twice. Other than that, he blew..and the rest of the team blew.

My whole point is........Brooks isn't going to play "near flawless" in every game this year. Then again....neither is Rothlesberger...neither is Brady.....Neither is Peyton. However, in the rare events that those guys have an off day, the rest of their team steps up to eek out a close win, or at least keep the game competitive. Whenever Brooks gets even remotely cold, it's as if the entire Defense, and pretty much the rest of the team just bends over, with a sign taped to their backs saying "Insert Here" (with an arrow pointing downwards).

We cant' exempt Brooks either. There was a point in the Minnesota game that the D was starting to clamp down, and we were clawing our way back into it. Wouldn't that have been a great time for AB to step up and complete the task? Instead, we rallied, but fell a bit short. Bigtime players have to elevate their game a few notches when others are having off-games. More times than not, the rest of the players pick up on this, and respond in kind.

For those of you who watched "NFL Game of the Week: Saints vs. Panthers"........you saw that after Brooks's red-zone fumble......one of the members of the Defense said something to the effect of "it don't matter, they won't do anything with the ball". The defense took it upon themselves to clamp down and compensate for the one and only offensive error of the day. We need to see that more often. Just like we need to see Aaron and the offense put more points on the board when the D is getting chewed up. Look at the Buffalo game.......some guy named JP Losman took the Bills rather effortlessly down the field....and scored immediately on us. Brooks and the offense came right back with a FG, then a touchdown to take the lead. The defense picked up on that positive energy, and as a result the Bills were never really a threat again.
