The Colt Offense

I'm a little jealous of Peyton and his offense. To hear Manning talk - all he has to do when changing a play at the line is give a little wave to Harrison, a tap on his leg to the backs and shout a little something to the o-line and they go. Peyton has commented several times that the Colts offense is successful because they are talented and are a cohesive unit. They know what each other is thinking and adjust.

As a Saint fan, I must wonder why we don't have their offensive success. I'm not smart enough to call that one.

Your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Please try to keep your AB vs. Jake comparisons to a minimum.

It's a sweet romance ya'll got goin' on. But not in every topic. :D

Hmm... possibly. I'm guessing it comes from more than one player. Coaching, attitude, scheme, focus, talent, smarts, dedication?

Okay, Peyton Manning and Tom Moore. No more than that would be necessary.

Low wonderlic score by the man under center ........

To run an offense like that , the quarterback makes all the reads at the line and adjusts to gain an advantage over the defense .

New Orleans simplified it's offense so that Brooks did not have to make the reads ......

Very good, 08.

You've scratched the surface. Now dig a little deeper, if you don't mind.

Thanks for your response.

.. I think Generalisimo said it best, because the Saints don't have Peyton Manning...
Peyton is a special QB, not only in the way he plays, but in the way he approaches the game...
.. you can see it on the sidelines: he's not looking at the polaroids, he's studying them...
...you can see it 2 hours before the game, when he comes out with Harrison to rehease routes...
...you can see it in the way he uses the pocket (very much ala Marino)...

And players around Peyton respond to his attitude:
... you never hear Peyton say he's great, but he always praises his teammates...
...things go bad, he stands up and takes responsibility...

ok.. I'm going to stop there... I'm getting a chubby :)

The original problem with Brooks was getting in and out of the huddle , a system with to much terminology .

That was modified to help Brooks out .

To run a Colt type offense , Brooks would have to make the read at the line , have the time to change the play and get the snap off . Peyton has been known to call his own plays at the line using a base formation . Brooks not being a real student of the game limits the offensive coordinator .

Peyton has an understanding of a highly complex system and the desire to make it work to his advantage .

Brooks struggles when the system is complex .....

Peyton is alot like John Elway when he's at the line...

Always barking signals, audibling....always in the game.

There are only a few like them.........I guess if every QB in the league was like them, it woudln't be as special.

That being said, Peyton's commercials annoy me.

I did like the one where he was cheering the accounting executives on.
