FIELKOW PLANNING TO SUE BENSON?

FIELKOW PLANNING TO SUE BENSON?

In Monday night a telephone interview with The Associated Press, former Saints exec Arnold Fielkow expressed disappointment with the sudden termination of his employment.

"My family and I are upset and greatly disturbed by today's events," Fielkow said.

Fielkow also said that owner Tom Benson's "actions were both unwarranted and unfair."

On Monday, Fielkow was summoned to Benson's office and given five minutes to resign. Benson offered to pay Fielkow the remainder of his contract if, within that same five minutes, he would sign an agreement keeping his dealings with the team confidential.

the rest here.

Who cares... everyone needs to be fired, this is just the start of things to come. So long Fielkow.

I care....this is the one guy within the orginization that had the guts to stand up against Benson and make it clear that he didn't want the team leaving New Orleans.

Then he should have learned to keep his mouth shut to the mediea. What corporation wants one of their top execs leaking every piece of info they get? This is not a good sign though.

While you make a good point Whodi it makes me happy to know that not every person within a corporation cares about the mighty dollar over a whole community.

you are right. And I am in full agreement withthe stance fielkow took, it was the correct one. But he needed to shut his trap. It was cute to a point, and certainly good for us fans to get the info so we could express our outrage, but you can't do that to your company.

What exactly did he do to his company? What was his posisition there? I think he didn't do anything wrong other than try to be politically correct in saying that the saints had no intention of leaving louisiana at the time. He also fought for games to be played at LSU. tHE TEAM is still the New Orleans Saints until they move. Why not try to keep the fans that buy the tickets and support the team interested? If the move doesn't happen do you think Benson's actions will bring fans to the stadium. He didn't whistle blow, all he did was his job.

I don't know of a company on Earth that would allow a top executive to leak inside company info to the media, no matter what it pertained to, do you? I am not begrudging the fact he did it, or the stance he took, caus eIa gree with him, but if Bill Gates' top guy was telling the media he planned to try and buy out Apple, he would be fired. Same thing.

lynwood 10-18-2005 02:11 PM

Did he leak info before or after he was fired? And what did he exactly leak? I think everyone already knew Benson was trying to move the team. The mayor of San Antonio leaked more than anyone else I know. I just don't understand exaclty what he leaked.

saintswhodi 10-18-2005 02:19 PM

Fielkow was the one that told of Benson's initial plans about San Antonio months and months ago. The guy that said they had a billion dollar offer for the team, and LA, and Albuquerque, etc. He has been dropping stuff to the media for a while. He may not have agreed with what Benson wanted, but Benson is his boss. When you openly disagree with your boss, that's one thing, but then take it public, you get fired. Period. I don't know if you see this as me agreeing with Benson on his stance, cause I don't. but it is his right to fire any employee he deems as being disloyal, and he deemed Fielkow as disloyal. Everyone knew Benson was trying to move the team cause Fielkow initially spilled that last year. As one article said, the hurricane just pushed up the timetable, and pushed a decision on Arnold, a vocal disapprover of Benson's plan.
