BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢Â‚Â¬Ã¢Â€Â New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson hurled himself at a New Orleans television camera crew on Sunday and got into an argument with a fan.

The WWL-TV camera crew said Benson lunged at them when they filmed him leaving the Saints game and that the owner then got into a shouting match with a fan.

Benson could not be reached for comment and Saints officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

The team owner is going through a very rough patch with fans and Louisiana officials. The anger toward Benson stems from talks he apparently had with the San Antonio mayor about relocating the team to San Antonio.

The Saints are under contract to play at the Louisiana Superdome through 2010 but certain provisions allow them to opt out before a Nov. 29 deadline.

The Saints played their first game this season in Louisiana on Sunday. The game was played in LSU's stadium in Baton Rouge and the home team lost 21-6 to the Miami Dolphins.

On Sunday, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue met with Benson, Gov. Kathleen Blanco and other officials. Tagliabue said he wanted to keep the team in New Orleans.

Saints owner Tom Benson lunged at an Eyewitness News camera, ripping off a microphone and then got into a shouting match with a fan upon leaving Tiger Stadium Sunday.

According to Eyewitness SportsÃƒÂ¢Ã¢Â‚Â¬Ã¢Â„Â¢ Lee Zurik, he and cameraman Mike Bland were in the press box with about five minutes to go when he saw Mr. Benson leaving the game.

Saints owner Tom Benson lunges at the Channel 4 camera, knocking it down and causing a microphone to fall off the equipment. Benson also got into a verbal argument with a fan.

Zurik and Bland went downstairs to get some video of Mr. Benson leaving and were ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢Â‚Â¬Ã…Â“7 to 10 feet from himÃƒÂ¢Ã¢Â‚Â¬? when Benson lunged and then swatted at the camera, ripping off a microphone that was attached.

Zurik said Benson then got into an argument with a fan and tried to lunge at him as well.

Looks like Benson's mind just snapped .....

Man this is completely classless, I'm embarrassed. Tom Benson has lost it. I think he lacks capacity to run and own an NFL franchise.

That is a rough estimate, but I'm sure it's not far off. I wish the clean up crew would count them.

The case for San Antonio was weak to begin with. But I don't think pointing out that 2500 more tickets sold at half the price is gonna be the deal breaker. Especially since San Antonio had two weeks to buy for a team that have no ties to, as opposed to Louisiana and surrounding areas having a month. Also, the falcons game was a omplete sellout. Add to that at 61,600, that leaves 17,400 empty seats in Baton rouge, as opposed to the 6300 empty in San Antonio. Like I said, the case was for San Antonio was already week from jump, but that argument doesn't make it any weaker.

.. I seriously doubt that Benson just picked up a fight with a fan... I'm all for booing the performance on the field, but some fans/news types seem to get too personal...
