NFL's most overpaid players... from FoxSports.com

8. QB Aaron Brooks, New Orleans Saints
2004 salary: $3.3M base, $0 signing bonus, $3.5M total, $5.4 M cap value
2005 base salary: $5.5M

Here's why Brooks, despite the occasional spectacular play, is overrated: In 2004, he led the league in "failed completes." These are passes that, despite being caught, do not achieve the number of yards needed to be considered a "successful play" according to our metrics (45 percent of needed yards on first down, 60 percent on second down, 100 percent on third down). This is why Brooks' raw yardage totals are always better than his actual value when it comes to winning. PROTRADE.com writer Mark Kamal also reminds us that last season Brooks led QBs in 1-yard TD runs while only half of his TD passes came from outside the 10-yard line. Consider as well that he had more sacks and turnovers than all but two NFL quarterbacks.

Brooks will make $5.5 million this season in base salary — good for fourth-best in the league — but last season he ranked as 19th best, just ahead of Kyle Boller.

RE: NFL

Another stat that BlackonBlack will come in and say it's the defenses fault he can't complete a passfor a successful play. I think this is a great stat, not just becaue it shows how poor Brooks is.

RE: NFL

It's hard to argue with Ab's performance. I've been on the fence for a while about him. Back in 2001-2002 I was probably pro-brooks. The last couple of years I saw the potential, but recognized that there was a likelihood that he would never live up to it.

Now, I'm just tired of it all. I want a QB that might have less stellar fantasy stats, but who also knows how to win a game. Everything is not his fault for what has gone on this season, but he is still the same ol' AB and 5 years is more than enough time for a QB to lead a team to the playoffs. For all his gifts, his gaffes cost us more.

You can officially put me on the "we need a new QB" team. Not because I dislike AB, but because he is just not getting it done.

Man, all that arguing the past year or so was wasted. Everyone could have just listened to me before last year, and we could have saved a lot of time disagreeing about other things. You're off the fence, JKool is off the fence, Danno(Tweeky elsewhere) is off the fence. That was a lot of wasted time. :P

It's safe to say that I'm off the fence. I certainly was pro-Brooks when he first started for the Saints. Squid.
