Saints would still lose if defense was the 2000 Ravens

Those who know me, know that I'm not a stats guy, but I came across this nugget while answering another post, and I feel it's worth it of its own thread.

Check this out:

Points scored by the 2005 Saints offense: 15.9 per game

Points allowed by the 2000 Ravens defense: 16.5 per game

So, even if the Saints defense was the equivalent of the 2000 Ravens defense, they'd still lose by the totally inept play of the offense!!!

The 2005 Saints defense would have to be the equivalent of the 1985 Bears defense, which allowed less than 13 points per game, for the Saints to actually win games.

Discuss... :)

When you also consider other aspects, that stats don't show it usually becomes clearer...

Our offense just plays bad, shooting themselves in the foot. OL most penalized since Haslett has been the Head Coach, WR'S that can't catch a kicker that can't hit the wide side of Bourbon street and a QB that's plays the image of the Big Easy.

Ravens just were a bad offense that had no hopes of scoring.

If we just alone cut Carney and bring in a better kicker, that increase our per game point total by 6...Since Carney averages 2 miss FG'S per game.

Just proves truly how inept our offense is. Funny that you are finally shown that if our defense was the 2000 ravens that you start to bash the offense including the QB. Is this the start of your seeing the light?

Hey you put yourself there. You've been carring the Defense sucks banner the offense isn't at fault flag since you started posting here. So don't say i'm putting you anywhere. You may not be in the boat but it sounds as if you are trailing in the dingy not far behind. All it will take is for brooks to move on to another team and show the same handicaps he has here and you'll be asking for a "click" t-shirt.

Actually the 2000 Raven defense held opponents to precisely 10.3125 points per game during the regular season.

http://www.football.com/nfl/records/NFLDScoring.shtml

Just look under Fewest Points Allowed, Season (16-game Seasons)

165 divided by 16 is 10.3125.

That still doesn’t change the fact that our offense is dog poop, and that our QB, LT, and LG should be replaced.

Out of curiousity, do you know how is that tabulated? There's a 6 point-per-game discrepancy between tthe number in that site and the number you get when you add all of the final scores for all 16 games the Ravens played in. I know that some of the scores against the Ravens may have come from turnovers by the offense/special teams and did not involve the defense, but 96 points?? That's a lot; I doubt that 96 points were scored against the Ravens after turnovers by the offense/special teams

... Now, it may be that that tabulation doesn't count field goals and special teams scores as scores against the defense...then I would need to take all field goals out of the average for the 2005 Saints offense and any scores by special teams or the defense.

..well, when I consider "other aspects", as in my "defense has actually played well" post, you dismiss them.

So, which one is it? Stats or "other aspects"??? :)

Check your math. According to the teams official site, the team gave up a total of 165 points. Just add up their opponents' scores, or look under Score By Periods.

http://www.baltimoreravens.com/docs/FINALStats_2000.pdf

Or follow this link;

http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/schedule.jsp

then click on 2000 Season Results at the bottom if the other link won't work.

But, as I said, it's still no excuse for our bad play on offense.

You are absolutely right.

I know what I did wrong...

I stand corrected, then...

If the 2005 Saints defense were the 2000 Ravens defense, teh Saints would be unbeaten :)

No, we would just find newer and more exciting ways to suck. :jester:
