Saints not sold on split home schedule

Guard Jacox livid, says league's decision 'all about money'

SAN ANTONIO -- The Saints' players and Coach Jim Haslett were disappointed to hear that NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue is expecting them to play another split home schedule next season between Louisiana and San Antonio.

The Saints were available to the media Thursday for the first time since Tagliabue's visit to New Orleans and press conference Monday.

"I don't think anybody wants a split schedule," guard Kendyl Jacox said. "We're tired of traveling for home games. I don't think it's fair to us. They say they're going to take care of us. Is that how you do it? No. It's all about money. Period, point blank. And I want them to stop lying and saying that it's not."

Jacox then turned his ire toward Tagliabue, who has not met face to face with the team this season, though he reportedly has made attempts to do so.

"He so-called, supposedly said he was going to try and come see us," Jacox said. "Well, stop making it the day of the game or the night before the game. How about get down here and see us on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday? I've got some real choice words for him."

When told that Tagliabue said he still intended to visit the Saints before the end of the season, Jacox said, "He's been saying a lot of stuff since the hurricane hit. I don't believe nothing he says. And you can quote me on that. I don't believe a thing he says."

RE: Saints not sold on split home schedule

THEN START A RIOT IF THE BONE HEAD OWNER DOESN"T GO BACK TO THE NICE PLUSH UNTOUCHED FACILITIES ON AIRLINE HIGHWAY, YOU KNOW THE ONE WITH THE INDOOR PRACTICE FIELD, SAUNA, JACUZZIS, AND OH I FORGOT... OFFICE SPACE. IT MUST SUCK WORKING OUT OF A JANITOR'S CLOSET WHEN YOU'RE HEAD COACH.

MAYBE HEAD BACK TO THE OLD BRAND NEW PRACTICE FACILITY WITH PLUSH LOCKER ROOMS INSTEAD OF CHANGING IN THE MEN'S RESTROOM AT MCDONALD'S WHERE THERE PRACTICING IN THE PARKING LOT BEHIND WALMART.

AND YESS I AM YELLING THAT'S WHY I'M USING CAPS!

The likelihood that the Saints will play some but probably not all of their games in San Antonio next season is not a promising idea, according to an editorial in the San Antonio Express-News.

The Saints lone "home" win was against Buffalo in San Antonio.

After having NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue’s statement atop its front page Tuesday, the paper printed an editorial saying that local officials shouldn’t jump on the Saints part-time bandwagon.

John Whistler, of the newspaper, said that an all or nothing approach might be better.

“If there’s not that carrot there of permanent relocation, I think that’s what lured fans in here the first time, he said. “Without that, I doubt if it (support) would be very strong.

WWL-TV Sports Director Jim Henderson said he doubts that if most of the attractive division games are played in Louisiana, that San Antonio would draw well if the team is losing.

Henderson pointed out that while the Saints got a lot of front page coverage during the first few games, they’ve been relegated to the back pages, in favor of the Cowboys, in recent weeks.

“It started the other way around, said Whistler. “But when the team started losing and there were no answers to questions of where they’d play, it went south pretty quickly.

A little off the subject, but tell me something, why all the *****in' by the players about Tag refusing visiting the team face-to-face, when it has been well documented that they turned him down when he tried to meet with the team at the beginning of the season, instead opting to meet with Ray "I don't know what to do" Nagin?

Maybe Benson is trying to send a message through the players to the commish ???

I would not put it past Benson to pull something like that ....

This is what I would do if I were calling the shots:

Keep training camp and all other team business on Airline Hwy. The Saints should make this their year round home again.

2 home preseason games- Play both within the region of the Saints market. Perhaps a game in Mobile, and maybe one in Jackson, MS. ???

For the first 9 weeks of the season, the schedule should include their off week, and only include 3 home games, with 5 road games on the schedule. This would give the Saints a chance to get into November with fewer road "home games". To make it even better, all 3 home games during the first half of season should be played in Baton Rouge.

With this scheduling method, the Saints should be able to have 5 games in the Superdome, while the entire time being able to live in the New Orleans area. The early part of the season should not be a big deal, as Baton Rouge is only about an hour drive from the Airline Hwy facility.

Of course, if there is no way the Superdome will be ready for games in November 06, just relocate the team and put us all out of our misery. No one can go through another year like 05...
