Vikings | Childress in town to interview
Mon, 2 Jan 2006 20:54:48 -0800

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator, Brad Childress, arrived Monday evening, Jan. 2, in the Twin Cities. He is scheduled to interview for the head coach's job with owner Zygi Wilf and his brother, team President Mark Wilf. The Wilfs have made it clear they will invest generously in their coaching staff. The Vikings want to move swiftly with their coaching staff because they want their new leader to surround himself with well-respected assistants.

I am gonna guess this one is a slam dunk for Childress .

All information comes from our network of league sources.

* The Chiefs are willing to give up draft picks to get Jets coach Herm Edwards.

* Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Fassel is on the Chiefs' interview list; he'll meet with the team later in the week.

* Fassel is emerging as a serious candidate for head-coaching jobs in Oakland and Minnesota.

* The Chiefs are interested in Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

* 49ers linebackers coach Mike Singletary will interview with the Lions later in the week for their vacant head coaching job.

* With Tom Heckert accepting a promotion and a raise to stay with the Eagles, the current candidates for the Vikings' G.M.-level job are in-house employees Scott Studwell and Jeff Robinson, Rick Smith of the Broncos, and Tom Dimitroff of the Patriots.

* Lions CEO Matt Millen wants to hire Rick Spielman for a front office position, but others will be interviewed before a decision is made.

* Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis has been linked to promotions with the Chiefs and the Lions.

* Rich Kotite and Waynes Fontes are on the interview list for none of the current vacancies.

Saints | Henderson may be a candidate
Tue, 3 Jan 2006 06:56:03 -0800

Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson may be a candidate to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have already requested permission to speak with Henderson, but the Jets haven't responded, according to someone with knowledge of the situation.

Collins out as Browns President

John Collins is out as Browns President, The Plain Dealer's Tony Grossi reports.

It is not clear yet whether Collins will leave the Lerner organization completely or be reassigned to the holding company that manages the Lerner family business.

In his daily podcast on cleveland.com, Grossi says that Phil Savage will stay on as General Manager as a result of Collins' departure. Former Browns executive Lew Merletti will also return to the team in some capacity.

The moves come after a power struggle that resulted in the apparent firing of Savage on Friday before owner Randy Lerner stepped in and took control of the situation.

Given this one statement, I would question the reliability of the "league sources" because since the Gruden to Tampa trade, the NFL has ruled that draft picks can not be traded for a coach.

ESPN was reporting that Martz is a candidate for NO job...mixed feelings about that one...Will he be healthy enought to last more than one or two games?

I hope they at least consider Childress, or ask permission to talk to Norv Turner

I always assume all coaching speculation is questionable .

A few years back the Chicago press announced the new head coach was a coach who had never interviewed for the job .

Saints | Loomis not expecting job search to be difficult
Tue, 3 Jan 2006 10:13:28 -0800

The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said he does not think the team will have a difficult time finding a replacement for Jim Haslett. "This is a good job," Haslett said. "Obviously, we have some challenges in front of us, but frankly I wouldn't want a head coach who's not willing to face challenges." Loomis added that he has some candidates in mind for the job, but would not mention them by name. He said the Saints' next head coach must have NFL experience and that interviews could begin within the next few days. "We're going to get the best coach available to us," he said. "He'll be the right man for our team, and we'll pay accordingly."

The hottest name on the coaching carousel is officially off the market.

FOXSports.com has learned that Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has signed a record-breaking contract for an assistant to prevent him from interviewing for a head coaching post elsewhere. Sources close to Williams said early Tuesday that Williams agreed to a new three-year deal worth nearly $8 million, well above the financial terms for any coordinator in the NFL.
Williams also agreed not to interview for any head coaching openings this off-season but, according to the source, it doesn't preclude him from taking a gig next year. The source also said that the biggest overriding factor was the fact that his family loves living in the Washington, D.C. area and were ecstatic with the new deal.

Williams was a top candidate in Minnesota, St. Louis and Kansas City, although the Chiefs are expected to hire Jets head coach Herm Edwards

I bet he wasn't on the Saints List, too much potential for a single season turn around

Oh..... just wait, the idiotic things Benson is going to do this offseason will shock and amaze everyone!!! Don't look for any decisions to be made that will help this team in the 06-07 season. He will draft some players that won't be ready until he gets them to San Antonio...and to replace Aaron Brooks...I see him picking up someone like Kurt Warner

Monkeys make better decisions than Benson will in the near future.

ScottBalot 01-03-2006 02:57 PM

Sorry, but the NFL will never allow Benson to move this team to San Antonio unless another major hurricane hits N.O. in the next two or three seasons

NFLDiva 01-03-2006 03:05 PM

San Antonio, L.A., Baghdad....wherever....as long as he can get them out of here, that jackass will be happy.

Just give Benson a piece of your mind there .....

CheramieIII 01-03-2006 06:06 PM

Anyone got some info on this Henderson from the Jet's?

BrooksMustGo 01-03-2006 06:43 PM

Henderson is a strong candidate. Not my first choice, but a better option on balance than most of the re-treads getting their names floated around.

Henderson was the secondary coach for the Ravens superbowl team if I recall right.

Kurt warner Crap...

jrmllb 01-04-2006 08:19 AM

Please God no , not Warner, he doesn't have it anymore, too many concussions too many questions, he threw for a bunch of yards for Arizona this year but could not get them in the endzone enough to win

MordorIV 01-04-2006 10:52 AM

He has no talent anymore sorry Kurt you just stink.
