Best thing I saw about Leinart last night

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; He looked to go through all of his reads on all pass plays. You could see him, 1, 2, 3, pass. With Brooks it was always,......where's Joe Horn?? It's also funny how everyone is annointing Vince Young our savior now. ...

Vince Young= a slower Michael Vick, with worse passing mechanics. He had a good game, congrats to him, but I don't want to see him in Black and Gold.

Thank you. People are so easily swayed. It's unreal.

Leinart did focus on one reciever, Jarret, with 10 of 29 completions and several that went incomplete/intercepted. He also had the benefit of a superb running attack up the middle which gave him a lot of time in the pocket with the play action. I doubt he'll get that kind of time in the pros. I really wasn't that impressed with his arm strength, as several passes needed to be zipped and they floated. Does this guy have small hands? If he does, that problem's only going to get worse in the NFL.

LOL... I guess no one seen last years Rose Bowl... Sorry I can't knock Vince Young all he did was win the second biggest game in his career, thats right last year's Rose Bowl was the first one he WON. Great players don't get to choose when to be great. When you can play in a big game and win and win, you get my vote.

The only thing that stood out to me about Leinart is, yeah he looke like he was a Saints QB already, getting pressure and didn't win.

Not saying i want him here, but you are oversimplifying a bit.

Vince young has a couple of important things on vick:

- smarter, with better ability to read a D
- much higher character and class
- willingness and ability to lead a team
- i don't like the release point either, but it sure seems to go where he wants it

I'm not sure how he'll turn out as a pro, but I think Young is more of a QB than Vick is.

Young is an a spread option offense. Exactly how many college QBs from that type of offense have been successful? Maybe he's the exception after 100 years of college football. I am not gonna knock the kid too bad, cause what he does is phenomenal. But I don't think there is one spread option offense being run in the NFL. Young will have a lot of learning to do in the pros.

OK, whodi....ya got me thinking.

(I'm asking, not telling.)

Pennington? Leftiwich? Kingsbury?
Steve Young? Cunningham? (UNLV)
I'm pretty sure Alcorn St ran the spread (McNair).
Doug Williams? Syracuse ran some weird offense with McNabb.

I can't think of any others.

I know you're a black man, so I know you aren't doing the whole black QB thing, but I think similar arguments have been made about most of the guys mentioned above.

I personally think V. Young's temperment is similar to McNabb's or Young's, which is the only reason I would not write the dude off as a spread QB. I like his attitude and leadership as much as I like his ability. (No, I'm not a Texas fan...he gouged my Wolverines last year and did it with class and poise.)

My point is there are aberations all over the place...hell, what precedent can you match Tom Brady's success to?

Anyway....good point about the spread, I was just trying to think of some exceptions.

First let me say what a performance by Vince Young! All the kudos in the world to him. However, he did what he did with an awesome college offensive line. Give them credit-Young was never really under pressure. He broke a lot of piss poor tackles by USC's defense & looked like a superman. All that said, NFL defenses are a whole new ballgame. They are way bigger, stronger, & faster than the defense Young faced last night. I just don't see him doing those type of things against NFL defenses. He won't have that kind of time in the pocket nor will he be able to break away from fast NFL defenses. If anything, if he plays the way he has played in college in the pros, he can look forward to an injury filled career. I'm not knocking the guy-he's very good. But, I hope he convinced the Texans enough to draft him #1, leaving Reggie Bush for my guys in Black & Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is going to be a learning curve in the NFL... that goes without saying but he is a special player, he wins big games. The NFL isn't a one player team... you have to have a supporting cast. No matter if we get Bush or Young we are going to have to address our Offensive line, you are going to have to protect both and give them time. I like getting Young if not then Bush, or trade down we have to many issues but you can't pass on Young -special-.
