this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; It is all about Attitude, and who his agent is. I bet Drew Rosenhaus is all over this kid. He has T.O. type attitude and an even bigger name now. If he becomes more humble and gets a fair agent ...

If he becomes more humble and gets a fair agent then take a chance. I personally do not like him because I have seen him throw more dead ducks against the ducks(Metaphor for bad defense......just in case you didn't get it) than I have seen him throw tight spirals.

Hey Ghandi, I don't think it will happen and it looks like our opinions differ. I say Hawk, you say Leinhart. I don't think Leinhart is going to be the QB everyone thinks he will. Remember it's just college, oh I forgot someone else said that when talking about Young, so I guess it applies to Mr. "I can't win the big game so I'm going to blame it on my defense".

Hey, I like A.J. HAwk too. He'll be an NFL stud. However, there will be some stud LB's in the 2nd round like Bobby Carpenter or Abdul Hodge. There will not be another polished franchise QB like Leinart in the 2nd round. We have to address all of our needs in this year's draft (unlike previous years). And yes, it is just college, but hey he's got the double chin thing going for him. That's a sign!!!!

Forgetting the franchise QB we have given away for AB are we. Besides mel is bad at evaluating QB's. Look at brady and other starters in the nfl.

RE: Mel likes Linehart

One player is not going to make our team better.
Cher, I usually agree with what you say, but I am at an absolute loss for words on this one.

and what are you going to do if Leinhart like some speculate say's he doesn't want to play for us just like Eli did? You are going to trade him away right? You bet!
First of all, he'll probably play anywhere, but if he didn't yes, I would trade the pick away. But what does that have to do with anything? If he wants to play here, then I want him because he's the best QB in the draft. If he doesn't want to play here, well that really sucks, and I wouldn't want a guy on the team who didn't want to be a Saint, especially at the quarterback position.

Where you keep holding out hope that a player is the savior of the team, like Hasbeen did with AB. Have you been paying attention, or like Hasbeen did with Cie Crant or Bouman or many other players.

Who the hell thought that Cie Grant or Bouman were saviors?
Exactly. He might have thought Grant would be pretty good, but Bouman? He's a permanent backup, and a bad one at that. Neither of them were expected to be "saviors."

Listen Cher, the point is, our biggest need is a QB. Our ability to draw QBs in through FA has been drastically reduced, not to mention there aren't many good QBs available, not even enough good ones to be starters for every team (i.e. Miami, Cleveland, Oakland). Getting a guy like Leinart who has won 1 (or 2 if you wish) national championships, won 34 straight games, has great poise, great intangibles, and a desire to win is huge for this franchise. Do we need a LB? Absolutely. I love AJ Hawk. Would I be mad if we traded down and got him? Probably, but only because we would let Leinart go. Hawk is a stud, but there are also a lot of good LBs in this draft, including D'Qwell Jackson ( ILB, Maryland), Abdul Hodge (ILB, Iowa), DeMeco Ryans (OLB, Alabama), Chad Greenway (OLB, Iowa), Bobby Carpenter, Cameron Vaughn, Rocky McIntosh, and some others. The point is, Leinart is a once in a very long time kind of quarterback, at a position where really good ones don't come around very often. There are always at least 3 or 4 LBs that come out every year that do well. The point is, AJ Hawk is a stud, but the Saints need a QB even more, and can still afford to use their 2nd round pick and get a VERY talented LB.

Yeah look at Peyton and Eli Manning. They are awful.

Great post, Deuce. I agree totally.

RE: Mel likes Linehart

The Leinart thing could work, but only if the team does it right. However this FO hasn't proven in the past that they have a clue as to what to do with QBs. They need to bring in a NFL vet that he can sit behind like a Jon Kitna(who doesn't suck and who was doing great before he was benched for Carson Palmer). In all likelyhood he will hold out until training camp and get a late start(as most high draft picks do). Last thing he needs is to get pounded twice a year by Carolina and Tampa Bay before he learns an NFL offense.
