So he made it official.........

Vince Young has said he is going into the NFL Draft, so now there is no more arguments about that specific subject. Houston has also made it official that they WILL select Reggie Bush. Now the Saints are on the clock, and they have many options.

1.) Select Matt Leinart - What this will do is send a QB with a GREAT O-line and even better RBs and WRs, who is arrogant to a Saints team who is looking to clean up their image. His upside is being a winning QB and having composure in the 2 minute drill. He played quite well in the Rose Bowl throwing screen passes to White and Bush. The biggest knock on Leinart is his weak arm and small hands, but he is a proven winner.

2.) Select Vince Young - What this will do is bring a dual threat at QB. He is quicker than Michael Vick and bigger than Byron Leftwich. He is a proven leader, and even went as far as to place notes in his teammates lockers in the offseason stating "If you want to beat Ohio State come workout with me." They did and they won. The biggest knock on him is also a weak arm and he is prone to fumbling due to poor ball handling. He also is a proven winner, but without proper teaching he could be the second coming to Brooks.

3.) Trade down for extra picks and bulk up on Defense - With a VERY weak LB corps and DTs who couldn't get through USC's O-line this is a very key need. This will bring young talented defensive players much like what N.E. has been doing the past 5 years. This will not put butts in the seats to start the season but if they gel well could mean a playoff berth after this horrible 3-13 season.

What is the best option? Who knows. If there is no decent QB coming through Free Agency then we MUST select a Franchise qb with Matt or Vince, or if Brett Favre expresses intrest in moving to the Gulf Coast to play for the Saints so he can be closer to home, we would then need to choose one of the QBs. Other than that we must draft Defense. I don't mean 1 pick for defense I mean all DEFENSE for the draft. Pick up some large linemen for the O-line through FA, and watch the teams gel.

Oh and one more thing JUST SAY NO to Mike Martz. Please GAWD get him away from this team. We need a proven DC who is looking to make his mark as a HC. That is all!

One thing....No way Vince Young is faster than Michael Vick, and Leftwich is definitely bigger than Young(6'5'' 245).

Damn Hagan I couldn't have said that any better. Bush hasn't declared for the draft yet and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't.

It makes the most sense for Houston to trade down, so look for the Jets, 49ers, or Raiders to try and trade up with Houston. That will set the wheels in motion. Bush is not a lock at #1 right now. Don't get fooled by Mortenson.

RE: So he made it official.........

take bush, then vince, then trade piks and go d-fence...we also need a playmaker at wide out...someone who can run after the catch...oh yeah, and can actually catch.....

Yup that is the one. He is in Black and gold now and still has some potential but he was hampered by injuries.

RE: So he made it official.........

take vince young- best qb. in the 2006 class, better leader than leinart(the classless fool). gives his teammates all the credit for the national championship win, while everyone else says he did it alone. total top of the class, once every blue moon franchise qb. no he's maybe not as fast long distance as vick, but he's quicker than vick.

CheramieIII 01-08-2006 04:08 PM

Damn Win, I was wondering when you would show up, where ya been?

RE: So he made it official.........

Im sorry but I say VY is 3rd in this class I have Cutler ahead of him. It is a proven fact that pocket passer are the ones who succed in this leauge. VY will not be able to run like that on NFL defenses. He is not quicker than Vick and in case you haven't noticed the leauge as figured him out too.

He has a very unorthdox throwing style, which I believe will lead to many blocked passes. And he doesnt have a long ball.

Sorry his performance against USC was the greastest inividual college football performance that I have ever seen. But that doesnt mean he will be a good pro.

True dat. Vick has a lot harder time now to make plays with his feet because everybody is expecting that. He now has to become more of a pocket pasaser and he is struggeling.

sarge06 01-08-2006 05:20 PM

RE: Re: RE: So he made it official.........

Exactly. Defenses in the NFL are forcing QBs to be pocket passer and beat them with their arms. I don't think that Vince's passing skills are good enough.

two words: get him!!!!!

Milians 01-08-2006 05:32 PM

Lets clear up a few myths here. First of all, Vince Young is NOT quicker OR faster than Michael Vick. He is definitely NOT as big as Byron Leftwich. He DOES have a three quarters sidearm delivery. His arm is NOT one of the strongest in college football, let alone the NFL. That being said, he is definitely one of the all-time great college QB's and is responsible for one of the greatest individual performances ever(Rose Bowl). He is also an unbelievable team leader who simply refuses to let his team lose. He projects as a better NFL QB than Vick because of his overall combination of ability and intangibles. If we can't have Bush, I can think of no one I would rather have with the second pick than Young.

clear it up one more time, your(yours) belief that vince young is not quicker than vick. i've seen both play and i think he is, there is a difference in being quick and being fast. his accuracy is off the charts, and no one can predict about blocked passes are anything else. his heart can't be gauge because it's off the charts a warriors warrior. and it wasn't singlely the 2006 rose bowl, go back and check the one's against michigan and ohio state.

OU v Texas 2004
12-0 OU

papz 01-08-2006 05:46 PM

Since his stock is so high now after beating USC, I can see why he's coming out. I still think he'd be better off starting another season in Texas but it's hard to pass up so much money. I thought prior to that game no way was Young going to be a top 10 pick, but I guess I was wrong. He's more impressive than I give him credit for. With that said, I still would take Leinart over Young. I think Leinart could start right away while Young will have to sit on the bench for at least a year before he gets any playing time.

sarge06 01-08-2006 05:50 PM

Thats what confuses me. The guy was barely a top ten talent before the game and then after that one game he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. What gives? I think the guy is talented but I just dont believe that he belongs in the same class as Linehart.

Milians 01-08-2006 05:53 PM

I agree completely that Young is an all-time warrior with tremendous testicular fortitude. He is a born leader. I would love to have him in the black and gold next year. That being said, no one in their right mind can argue that Young is quicker or faster than Vick. Vick is one of the quickest and fastest players in the league. I am quite aware of the difference between quickness and speed. Vick has the advantage in both categories over Young. Not that it means a damn thing because Young is a much stronger runner and breaks many more tackles than Vick ever will. They have two completely different styles of running. I think Young will ultimately be the better pro. He is a better passer than Vick was coming out of college.

CheramieIII 01-08-2006 05:54 PM

Come on Sarge, cut Young some slack he just beat the best QB in college football all by himself and he actually engineered a last minute drive to win the most important game maybe of all time.

i don't know what magazines you read, because they must be very very out-dated. vince young prior to the rose bowl was considered top 5. after the rose bowl #1, the reason why you didn't notice is because you weren't watching.

papz 01-08-2006 05:55 PM

Not really... talent wise he was already considered by many as a top 10 talent. I think it was more of a question of whether or not he's polished enough as a quarterback to make that jump. Before the game I thought he was going to continue to develop and be a top 5 pick next year but definately not this year. I think he's still raw and needs more seasoning. But, what better way to go out than on top beating USC with Leinart and Bush on the other team.

Why all the focus on running. Thats what our RBs are for. Running QBs dont have a good track record in the NFL. They are always stopped by either injuries, defenses figuring them out, or the fact that they are able to make the nessecary throws.

Im not saying that he can't but I don't know if VY can make the nessecary throws.

sarge06 01-08-2006 05:57 PM

I know Linehart can.
