Why no interest . . .

I have been reading all the press on the head coach job and the litany of "ass" coaches being interviewed. Other than Benson being a cheap bas%#$d why has there been no interest in Mike Tice? Why do we continue to be a training stop for head coach wannabes, why not get a proven head coach for a change?

uhh prolly cuz tice sucked as a head coach...his teams werent under control in minnesota... how u think they will be in NEW ORLEANS!

DblBogey 01-10-2006 07:16 AM

Oh I guess you are blaming the boat incident on Tice. These were supposedly growen men that shouldn't chaperones 24/7. Even with all of there distractions this year they had a hellof better record than we did. I am not touting Tice as much as I am someone who has been in the trenches. Why not Mike Sherman? I am just tired of "ass" coaches that have been riding someones coattails and are not proven. Of course, with Benson as the owner I don't think Vince Lombardi or George Halas could have succeded.

yes i am blaming it on him... he shoulda had better control of his team... n not only that but the guy was reprimanded by the NFL for scalping his superbowl tickets.... thats just stupid plain n simple....

... those weren't trenches, it was the Maginot Line...
... of course, we would have the "Horn Factor"...

Now, I find it amusing that you call Benson a cheap $*^$% , yet ask why Mike Tice, "$600,000 a year" Mike Tice, "I've got more 8-8 records than Jim Haslett" Mike Tice, has not been brought up for an interview...

i want a coach who is going to disipline this team, not go out n party with them

DblBogey 01-10-2006 07:51 AM

Pak . . .

Yeah maybe Eric Manghini at least he will be coming from a true winning mindset. But with the names mentioned Henderson (Jets), Cathorn (Browns), Peyton (Cowboys) or Hill (Fresno State) come on lets get real. If you go for an "ass" coach go for one from the Pats, Colts or someone that is proven. But again the HC will be only as good as Ben$on will support him. It is reported the Lienart nor Young are interested in coming to the Saints and with the outlook I can't say I blame them. But if you get a blue chip HC then the future would look better to the draftees. I just don't want to go through the same ol' chinese fire drill that we keep repeating.

jergensl 01-10-2006 08:03 AM

we need a head coach that can change the entire mindset of the franchise. we need a marvin lewis type. he came into a loser organization (bengals much like the saints in this) and changed the attitude. in one year they became contenders and in 3 years had one of the best teams in the nfl. remember they stilll do have a loser for an owner, but that hasn't stopped them.

i think donnie henderson would be able to come in and change the mentality of the team. one of the first things he would have to do is fire all the assistants and coordinatoors except maybe mike shepard. so far henderson is the only possible candidate that i see being strong enough to shift the mindset of the franchise. i see a lot of positives with both marriuci(sp) and martz but they are not strong willed enough.

pakowitz 01-10-2006 08:04 AM

the saints arent really lookin to hire a guy with head coaching experience.. they want a young guy with fire and drive to succeed

jergensl 01-10-2006 08:13 AM

the saints cannot afford (benson is not willing to pay and none would come to NO). i do think we need a strong leader to get this long lasting loser mentality out of the franchise.

As far as I'm concerned, Tice and Haslett are mirror images of one another. Both have had consistently underachieving teams.....both are young, ex players who may yet be a little too close to the game.

I don't think you specifically blame the boat incident on Tice, but once you start to pile up the incidents, you get a feeling that the guy doesn't run a clean ship (pun intended).

I think when you're the Saints, you have to know thyself when looking for a coach. That rules out Tice.....I hope it also rules out Martz. ( A coach who loves to play video game football on a team that never gets breaks....not hard to figure out where that will get you.)

DblBogey 01-10-2006 09:38 AM

All points well taken . . . I'm just tired of business as usual. I think a good starting point will be when all of the windows in my avatar bus are X'ed out, especally Benson. We all know he is not going to open his purse to woo someone who is a proven winner over and over again. It looks like Loomis is going to screw around and take what is left over instead of being proactive and get who you really need at all cost, such as the Chiefs did. We have always seemed like a minor league (training) team for the NFL . . . I am ready for a team that players will look forward to playing for, instead of trying to avoid. Names from the past came jumping back into my memory as former Saints that are in the playoffs this past weekend.

Euphoria 01-10-2006 10:02 AM

It is not reported that either Young or Leinart have said they don't won't to come to NO. Rumor Rumor rumor... I know for a fact Matt hasn't said anything and is waiting to see what happens, he feels confident he'll go in the top 3 and that is it.

Mike Tice might get a chance again some day but I don't want him in NO. You have to control your team on and off the field.

AllSaints 01-10-2006 10:57 AM

I say no to Tice....

Great point. But you forgot: both have had ridiclously undisciplined teams.

Yes, that too. And they also both seem like reasonably likeable guys away from their team. Sooner or later, your message either gets across or it doesn't. I think that Tice/Haz have both shown that they aren't very good enforcers of positive culture. And who knows, maybe one or both of them learned things that will help at their next job. I just don't wanna be the ones to find out.
