Perhaps Tags is twisting Tom's arm pretty strongly....

From WWLTV.com
The New Orleans Saints will likely play all eight of their regular season games in the Superdome, it was announced by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue Wednesday.

WWL-TV

Following the 2005 season in which the Saints played only four games in their home state of Louisiana, NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and team owner Tom Benson announced the Saints would likely play all home games in the Superdome next season.

The commissioner also said that ideas to spur interest in the Saints are being considered, including: A kick-off event before the first NFL game of the season and a New Year’s Eve special tied into a Saints game that night.

Tagliabue and team owner Tom Benson both added that the team is “committed to trying to stay in New Orleans for the long haul. Both men said that every effort was being made to that end, but that the area would have to show it can support a team.

“I’m committed for as long as the community commits to me, said Benson. “We’re here and we’re committed.

Tagliabue was in town to gauge the city’s progress and he said he was impressed. Both men said their meeting with business leaders went well and that most businesses are optimistic about the future.

Benson, who had been quoted in reports as calling the city “unlivable during his time in San Antonio, said he has also seen a marked improvement.

“Between September 2nd, when we left for San Antonio, and now is like night and day, he said.

The Saints will probably not play their preseason games in the Superdome, but Benson said they will likely be held somewhere in Louisiana.
Hopefully, they aren't setting us up for a move to L.A. instead of LA.

If Tags can get Saints to stay I guess I'll just have to call the Nobel committee and see what prizes they got left.

If Tags is just playing around buying time to move the Saints to LA I think this would put a huge blackmark on him and the NFL being how a lot of ppl suffered in N.O after the hurricane, I think Tags is for real and I would for for him as president of the USA

That last part of the article is very important:

The Superdome is not expected to be ready to host football until mid-September, but Benson said he is intent on playing both of the Saints' home preseason games at other venues in Louisiana.
Excellent PR move. What better way to market the team to the rest of the state/region, and, yet keep the team in New Orleans, than to hold the preseason games in other cities. The two "home" preseason games could be rotated each year between some of the major cities in the state and region. This would be taking the traditional "Black and Gold" games to the next level. Think about it, New Orleans wouldn't be losing out on much because they are just preseason games, but the fans and cities in other areas would have a great deal to gain by attracting more fans and by helping them get to know the team on a more personal level. By doing this you also increase the chances that the fans will eventually travel to NO to watch regular season games. Now, that's marketing the team.

They could sell out Independance stadium in Shreveport in no time, went there for the Independance Bowl it has been renovated...Looked real nice its probably better than what the Browns were playing in 1995...ie they have more than one bathroom at Indy Bowl...Anyway, I'm just glad they are giving it a chance....Hey, don't think of it as commiting to Benson, commit to the team!
