Mike Sherman

Someone change my mind on him... I don't want him in NO, I think he had his chances in GB and hasn't gone to the SB, riding the coat tails of Holmgreen there. I like the fact he spent time in NO as Tulane's Coach and seems like a good fit but can he turn the team around?

I think saying that he was "riding the coatails of Holgram" is stretching it a little. If the team would have fallen off within a year or two after Holgrams departure, then I can see it, but when the team continues to win for 5 years afterward, you can not call that "riding on the coatails". Sherman went 57-39 and won three division titles in six seasons. That record is including the 4-12 that they posted this season when many of their starters, including Walker, Green, and Davenport, were placed on IR. To criticize him for not going to the Super Bowl is a little harsh considering that in the same six seasons there were a total of only 6 different coaches to even make an appearance there. In addition he had posted a winning record in all five previous seasons, and made four straight playoff appearances. I believe of all the coaches who were fired this past season, Sherman was the least deserving, by far.

I think if Ahman Green, Najeh Davenport, and Javon Walker were all healthy this past season, the Packers would have at least contended for a playoff spot. Brett Favre would have had a better season and Sherman would have still been coaching that team. The guy has had some tough luck there with the injuries and that little Minnesota debacle in the previous year. He's a good coach imo... but I don't see him being a good fit here either.

I don't see a problem if we get Sherman, he's a good coach, he just had horrible luck this season with injuries

SAINTSFAN834 01-13-2006 11:21 PM

He has 1 9 win season, 2 10 win seasons, and 2 12 win seasons before this season. There is nothing wrong with that. You talk about riding coat tails? What about Payton and Carthon? Had they not had the luck of being a minor assistant under Parcells, no one would even be considering these guys for a HC position. They have proven nothing as assistants. I think Sherman is by far, the best of the group we have interviewed.

hey euph didn't ray rhodes take over for a year or two after holmes. i think he did. if it smells like and looks like it it probably is it. jason craft ladies and gentlemen

Who ever we get they need to be tuff. The city itself is not good for a players coach. We party to much. God i miss 24/7 bars.

spkb25 01-14-2006 08:44 AM

hey i remember sherm trying to go after sapp.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we get Sherman. I feel more confident with him than the other people interviewed so far. I have to agree with SaintsFan on this one. There are some coordinators that I feel merit a head coach position, but I don't think we've talked to any of them yet.
