Heard the new HC on with Bobby last night on the big 870. He said something very simple, but very accurate regarding our team. (This in response to a question from Bobby regarding repeated occurances of stupid plays.)

Payton said that you have to look very hard at the things that prevent you from winning games. I know Haz paid alot of lip service to this (and for all I know this is the same till I see it on the field).

I just thought the idea resonated in terms of the Saints. Over the Hazlett tenure, none of us really doubted the Saints' ability to make the plays that win games....it was more praying that they wouldn't make the plays that lose games. The 8-8, 9-7 teams could have easily been 11-5, 12-4 teams had they kept their focus.

How many times did they play bad after a "great week of practice"? How many times did Haz talk about killing the pre snap/stupid penalties? I've never seen a team offsides on so many kicks. Again, I'm sure Haz was trying, but some coaches are just able to get this stuff done.

Early on, I like this new hire. But....it's January and we're not playing a whole lot of football right now :)
