Time to start looking at the O and D Line!

Broncos | Team needs to clear nearly $30 million for 2006 salary cap
Mon, 23 Jan 2006 18:59:35 -0800

The Associated Press reports the Denver Broncos need to pare close to $30 million off the 2006 season salary cap. The situation could mean several players will not be with the team next year. C Tom Nalen, OT Matt Lepsis, DL Gerard Warren, and DL Courtney Brown are all possible victims.

I am sure alot of teams are going to be cutting some decent prospects to fill our holes. If we cut or trade AB and Howard goes we should be about 24 million under the cap and that's without any league compensation or incentives that the NFL has hinted at. It could be a very good off season boys and girls, even better than the regular season.

I'd like Nalen & Lepsis. With Nalen, we could move LeCharles Bentley back to guard where he can dominate. Lepsis could take Gandy's place. Wow, that would give Leinart extra time to pick teams apart. Our FO isn't that bright though, but hell, it doesn't hurt to wish.

yeah lets wast a second pick in the draft on a QB who is not even rated at number one.

Uhmm... Actually, Mel Kiper has Leinart rated as the #1 QB in the draft as he should be, but let's stay on the "I hate Leinart" bandwagon. You guys, kill me. We finally have a shot at a franchise QB & you guys want to draft another Brooks. As athletic as Young is, he's got the "Brooks Fumbleitis" disease. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had about all of that crap I can stand!!!

Lepsis should stay they need his leadership and talent

I have to agree with putting Bentley back at guard. He was a beast at that spot. If we can get a good center in the offseason it would be a smart move.

Think about the right side of the line with Bentley and Brown... that would look like a couple of dozers.

CheramieIII 01-23-2006 11:02 PM

I agree TD, I think if we pick up a veteran center in FA and with Stinchcomb coming back the Oline will be in pretty good shape.

Anyways, I would love an upgrade on the line, too. I think moving Bentley back to OG would be huge for us, because he's a natural there. However, I also am afraid that we would have to overspend to get some of these guys, and I know that our FO isn't going to fork over the dough on anybody, so who cares, right?

What about that kid that got hurt for us last year in training camp. Stinchcomb i think his name is. He has a ton of fire and grit. He can still be a good linman. I think we need to cut Mayberry.

Stinchcomb stays hurt more than Grant Hill.

CheramieIII 01-24-2006 06:31 PM

Either Stinchcomb will be a hit this year or another injury and he will be cut. Third times the charm but we gave AB 6 chances. Man was Haslett stupied to hang his hat on that guy.

turbo_dog 01-24-2006 10:30 PM

I'm not a Stinchcomb supporter at all. I thought it was a really poor pick when he was drafted, and I've seen nothing to prove the contrary. I hope he does come in and have an injury-free season, but I'm not holding my breathe. Neither should the coaches.

why move a pro bowl center to guard?

Dallas FA
Andre Gurode, #65-C/G Ht: 6' 4" Wt: 314
College: Colorado
NFL Experience: 4th season

He knows Payton's ideas on offense. It would be like having an addition interior line coach for the first year. It would speed up transition for C/G postions. Unless Payton knows something about this guy.
I know Bentley is a pro bowler at center but i think at G he is better suited. I believe it would reduce his injuries. Just getting one arm up would help him stay healthier longer. Results would be more pro bowl selections.

Haha exactly. And not only was he a Pro Bowl guard, he was probably a better guard than he is a center.

I know something about this guy. He is a classic underacheiver. Should be the starter at center, given his potential, but, cannot consistently outperform Al Johnson at the center position.

hagan714 01-25-2006 10:52 PM

Really that bad. or could it be the scheme or wronge style for him. or just another sullivan on the OL? Shame it would have been nice.

zachsaints52 01-26-2006 09:20 AM

Yeah, Gurode would be a good pick up, our line would start to become young and full of fire. I would just love to get Brick ad Gean-Gilles, than my fantasy line would be complete haha. I know Al Johnson, went to a football camp with him, it was a shorts and cleats helmet, and he still got mad when someone didn't do it right.
