Sammy Knight

It's time for Sammy to come home.

I don't care if he's old and lost a step or two. Sign him to play, coach or inspire.

One bad head-knockin' dude.

RE: Sammy Knight

i agree, it was a huge mistake to let him go.

is he too slow? yes
is he a liablity in one on one coverage? yes
does he always find a way to get a turnover? yes

i want him back in black and gold

Why did we let him go? What happened there?

Feel free to chime in here, old timers.

Well it was another case of "players losing a step" or "locker room cancer" which the Haslett camp made famous. Sammy Knight was the ONLY defensive player worth watching his last couple of years in New Orleans. His knowledge of field position more than offset his speed or lack thereof. When a safety leads your team in tackles, you know your D-line and linebackers leave much to be desired. Sammy always played every down. He is one of the most hard-nosed individuals I've ever seen wear the black and gold. I wouldn't mind seeing him back in New Orleans. He and Dwight Smith would make an awesome tandem. I know his better days are behind him, but damn I miss him.

Dwight Smith looks to be of the same mold, only faster.

He was a hard hitter, created turnovers, and a leader on a horrible defense. If we bring him back now, he'll just be another Jay Bellamy on our roster. While he was here, he was a a liability on defense... he gave up way too many big plays down the field. One thing he was good at was tackling... so many he could come in and give Colby some tackling lessons. Now that I would be in favor of.

Sammy is a saint by blood. just look at his stats over his time with us. i would love to see him come in on passing downs and some safety work as a second teamer. Special teams could really use him. let him retire in the black and gold

You also have to realize, papz, that Sammy was having to play out of position the majority of the time due to the horrible run defense of the Saints front seven. He was constantly having to support the run, and that is why the majority of the time he looked burned on passing plays. I'll defend Sammy on that until doomsday.

Sammy Knight is my idol. Soon, I'll be changing my icon to a picture of Knight that he autographed for me.

That is all.

Sammy was great when he was in N.O, I like him but I think he's just lost to much over the last couple of years to really contribute in a positive way, I want to see some smart young, and fast guys come to play for the Saints, it's time for us to begin winning again, for that to happen you have to have good players with speed.
Oh how I wish one day when could get back to the Dome Patrol days, I'd like another 57 type player on D.
Where is Ricky these days?
