Cheramie- Nice post. I did not realize coordinators hired coaches. I always thought this was done by the head coach. Very interesting... I will say this about Venturi, I think he is an excellent coach, not necessarily an excellent coordinator. He should do well in St. Louis as a position coach. To me, the guy has a great mind to be able to write up very elaborate schemes, just does not have the sense to know that the guys on his defense were not capable of running them.

It varies from staff to staff. This is the first time I remember seeing this as well.

Well also being the HC's DC OR OC you have a lot of pull so if your the DC and you want joe smuckatelli as your db coach, you make this happen if you are in good favor with your boss.

I have no doubt they will do well. Watch. It will be the same case of "they did well somewhere else but they couldn't do well here".

ROFL....and the Rams defense was ALMOST as bad as ours. Hope the Rams can score a ton of points now that Martz is gone. They're gonna need it.

Venturi and Haslett were both awful. Plain and simple. They took a talented team and drove them into the deep icy waters of mediocrity. I'm gald their gone, good riddance. Excited about Gibbs. Excited about a fresh start. Haslett was young and energetic, and people liked that. But he also lacked real intelligence, IMO, about football; and also a lack of discipline. I think Payton has the total package. He's young, energetic, and extremely smart. He turned Testaverde, Collins, and Q Carter into 3000 yard passers. You look at what those guys did a year after they left Payton, and they sucked. Collins is awful now. Testaverde went from 3000 yards to total crap. And Q Carter is just a total drug addict, but I guess that has nothing to do with Payton. Anyways, we should be glad that Venturi and Haslett, and their awful coaching, are gone.
